Ambrose makes V8 Supercar return
SYDNEY — Former NASCAR driver Marcos
Ambrose finished 20th and 21st Saturday in his
first V8 Supercar races since 2005, and after crash-
ing in qualifying for the first race.
Ambrose, who spent the last nine years racing
in the United States, was driving a wild card entry
for Dick Johnson Racing ahead of his full-time po-
sition with DJR Team Penske in 2015.
In qualifying, the Australian slid his Ford into
the concrete wall at turn five but was not injured.
Team owner Dick Johnson said Ambrose’s aim
was to “only finish the weekend — and so far so
good.”
Saturday’s races — the second was shortened by
rain — were part of the season-ending Sydney 500.
Both races were won by 2014 series champion Ja-
mie Whincup.
Dozens of Red Bull trophies stolen
MILTON KEYNES, England - More than 60
trophies won by Red Bull have been stolen in a
burglary at the Formula One team’s factory in
southern England.
Police say in a statement released by Red Bull
that approximately six men were in a vehicle that
was driven through the front entrance of the facto-
ry in Milton Keynes, north of London, early Satur-
day. Police say night staff on the premises were not
harmed.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says
the value of the trophies to the team is “extraordi-
narily high due to the sheer hard work and effort
that went into winning each and every one.” Red
Bull has won four constructors’ titles and former
driver Sebastian Vettel won the drivers’ champi-
onship four times.
Soccer
Galaxy, Revs to clash for MLS title
CARSON, Calif. — Everything is in place for a
Hollywood ending to Landon Donovan’s career.
Donovan and the L.A. Galaxy are playing for
the MLS Cup title on their home field today.
League MVP Robbie Keane and his talented team-
mates are determined to send Donovan into early
retirement with the franchise’s record fifth cham-
pionship.
“If anyone deserves to go out on a high, it’s cer-
tainly Landon,” Keane said.
The only obstacles to this big finish are the New
England Revolution. After a late-season surge co-
inciding with the arrival of U.S. World Cup star
Jermaine Jones, the Revs are rolling toward the
first MLS Cup victory for one of the league’s origi-
nal franchises. A week after ending Thierry Hen-
ry’s career in the Eastern Conference finals, they
relish the chance to be spoilers on Donovan’s big
day.
“Landon is an excellent player, a legend, and his
legacy will certainly stand on its own,” New Eng-
land coach Jay Heaps said. “We’re sticking to our
process. All that other stuff is just noise.”
Holiday named U.S. player of year
CHICAGO — Midfielder Lauren Holiday is the
U.S. women’s player of the year.
Holiday, a two-time Olympic gold medalist who
played at UCLA, also won U.S. Soccer’s young
player of the year award in 2007. She is the first
woman to win both awards.
Holiday played in her 100th international
match this year in a 1-1 draw with Canada. She also
helped her club team, FC Kansas City, to the Na-
tional Women’s Soccer League title in August.
Other candidates included Abby Wambach,
Sydney Leroux, Christen Press and Carli Lloyd.

Sam Houston wins second-round game
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Jared Johnson threw
three touchdown passes and ran for another to
lead Sam Houston State to a 37-26 victory over
Jacksonville State in a second-round FCS playoff
game Saturday.
Johnson connected on a 49-yard score with La-
Darius Brown with 8:03 left in the third quarter
for a 30-26 lead. Jalen Overstreet added an insur-
ance score with a 33-yard run four minutes later.
The Bearkats (10-4) will take on Villanova in
the quarterfinals.
Men’s college basketball
No. 2 Badgers beat Marquette
MILWAUKEE — Josh Gasser scored 12 points
on four 3-pointers, 7-footer Frank Kaminsky add-
ed 15 points and 10 rebounds and No. 2 Wisconsin
managed a 49-38 win Saturday over Marquette.
The Badgers (8-1) shot 32 percent while con-
tending with a 2-3 zone defense by the undersized
Golden Eagles, who don’t have a starter taller than
6-7.
But Wisconsin looked sloppy at times in the
second half, and Marquette (4-4) chipped away at
a 10-point halftime deficit. Two foul shots by Sandy
Cohen III with 8:57 left cut the lead to 35-33 at the
Bradley Center.

DALLAS (AP) - Tyler Se-
guin had two goals and an assist
to help Dallas beat the slump-
ing Montreal Canadiens 4-1
Saturday night, ending the
Stars’ four-game losing streak.
Stars
Dallas 4, Montreal 1
Cody Eakin and Ryan Gar-
butt also scored for the Stars,
who had goals during a 5-on-4
power play, a 5-on-3 advantage,
while skating 4-on-4 and into
an empty net. Kari Lehtonen
finished with 16 saves to earn
his first victory since Nov. 25.
Sven Andrighetto scored
for Montreal in his NHL de-
but and Carey Price stopped
25 shots. The Canadiens
dropped to 1-5-1 in their last
seven games after a 16-5-1 start
to the season.
Dallas limited Montreal to
17 shots — the Stars’ season
low for shots allowed — after
giving up an average of 38 over
the previous six games.
The Stars’ previous low for
shots allowed this season was
22 against Minnesota on Nov.
15. Montreal also had only 17
shots on Oct. 13 at Tampa Bay.
Seguin scored both his
goals in the second period, the
first at 3:09 and the second
with 8 seconds remaining to
make it 3-0. He leads the NHL
with 21 goals, and assisted on
Eakin’s power-play goal with
8:37 left in the first.
Andrighetto got the Cana-
diens on the scoreboard at 2:21
of the third period.
Garbutt capped the scoring
with an empty-netter with
1:04 left.
It took the Canadiens 14:37
to put their first shot on Leh-
tonen, and they were short-
handed at the time.
Dallas had taken the game’s
first nine shots, scoring on
their seventh. Just 6 seconds
into the game’s first power
play. Eakin was just at the
right of the net to backhand in
a rebound of Seguin’s shot.
In the second period, Se-
guin scored on a 5-on-3 power
play, taking a cross-ice pass at
the bottom of the left faceoff
circle from Benn, and beating
Price with a shot.
Dallas scored another
quick goal in the final seconds
of the period. After a coinci-
dental minor on each team
with 11 seconds remaining,
Benn won the faceoff in the
Montreal end, drew the puck
back to the top of the right cir-
cle, and Seguin wristed a shot
under Price’s right arm.
Briefly...
Seguin has seven goals in
seven games. He entered the
game with 32 points, only lbe-
hind the league leaders.... Ea-
kin has scored five of his six
goals at home. ... Dallas C
Shawn Horcoff, playing in his
900th NHL game, won all
four of his faceoffs in the first
two periods.... Price began the
night with a 2.43 goals against
average and .920 save per-
centage this season, but with a
3.01 GAA and .895 percentage
against the Stars. ... Montreal
D Sergei Gonchar and Stars
LW Travis Moen, traded for
each other Nov. 11, played for
the first time this season
against their former teams.
