Civic league celebrates another year of giving
^^■his year the Argyle Com-
munity Civic League An-
I gel Tree served 106 chil-
dren. The league sent out more
than 850 Angel Tree tags for ev-
ery child to receive two outfits,
shoes and socks, pajamas and
underwear, coats, hats and
gloves and three Christmas
wishes. Those wishes ranged
from baby dolls and bicycles to
electric scooters and Samsung
tablets. The recipients also re-
ceived grocery gift cards for each
family.
The Angel Tree dinner was a
big success, raising more than
$3,000 for the ACCL Angel Tree
account and receiving more
than $950 in gift cards. The gift
cards allowed ACCL to purchase
items that were not provided
from the Angel Tree tags.
The ACCL Back-to-School
program at the beginning of the
school year served 82 children,
providing them with two to
three outfits, shoes and socks,
backpacks and school supplies.
Fifteen volunteers shopped at
Kohl’s for the children’s outfits,
and ACCL was given a $500
grant from Kohl’s Cares for vol-
unteer service and making a dif-
ference in the community.
This year ACCL created a
website, a Facebook page and an
Instagram account, @argyleccl.
Two new members were also
added this year. For more infor-
mation, email argyleccl@aol.
com or call Sherry Cargile at 940-

Argyle Little Free Libraries
“There are books in Argyle’s
J* -
Lynn Sheffield
Simmons
THE PLACE IS ARGYLE
little Free Libraries that can
help you keep your New Year’s
resolutions,” says ALFL coordi-
nator Patti Smith.
“If you resolve to eat healthi-
er, look at Sandra Woodruff’s
books on fat-free cooking and
fat-free desserts. If you want to
spend more time with your chil-
dren, there are books by Tony
Mitten and Ant Parker on air-
planes, trucks, diggers and cars.
For leisure reading the ALFL’s
have best-sellers such as Gone
Girl by Gillian Flynn or Frank
McCourt’s Angelea’s Ashes”
New books are added to the
libraries every month. The four
libraries have a total of more
than 100 books. The ALFL loca-
tions, where you can “take a
book, leave a book,” are Real Es-
tate Station, 702 U.S. Highway
377; Edward Jones, 100 Country
Club Road, No. 100; PointBank,
302 N. U.S. 377; and Argyle
Town Hall, 308 Denton St.
“Children’s books are the
most popular and are the hard-
est to keep in stock. Making a
donation of children’s books is
always appreciated,” Smith said.
