did not come through. I have now placed the negotiations for a smaller space in the able
hands of Dale Curry and Worth Ross.
PART 2 FROM SUZY
Per Donald's request, I sent out letters to 60 organizations in the back of This Week in
Texas, asking them to do an event for us. So far, I have gotten a "yes" from Lesbian
Visionaries and PFLAG in Dallas, PFLAG and GALOR (no, not Zsa Zsa, Gays and
Lesbians of Rice) in Houston, and Stonewall Business Society in Austin. Also, the Capitol
City Men's Chorus is very interested; and, of course, Sandra Martinez of "Chances" is
willling to do something. Betty Naylor is also assisting me in approaching the other bar
owners in Austin. If you have contacts with any organizations, please provide me with
names and numbers because I am continuing to make follow-up calls next week.
PHONE BANKS: Dallas trustees have decided to not have a phone bank until later in the
fall. There are numerous fundraising events in Dallas in the month of September
(including HRCF's Black Tie Dinner). I do not know the status of the phone bank in
Houston. In Austin, we are having ours September 7th and 8th..
I still have not received word from the Playboy Foundation on our funding request. Cleo
Wilson, Executive Director, has heard from approximately half of the trustees. She is still
awaiting response from the others. I will keep the board posted on this. The Chicago
Resource Center declined our request for funding.
I am working on direct solicitation, as well as grant writing. If you have leads, please call
me. Also, I am putting together a fundraising calendar for the quarter. The proposed
projects will have to be voted on by the Development Committee; so, those of you on that
committee will receive a memo from me shortly regarding setting up a conference call to
discuss these matters.
For those of you who may not have heard, David Bryan, former board and staff member
of THRF, died on July 14. He was 36. He remembered THRF in his estate and bequethed
$5,000. His estate is currently in probate.
IMPORTANT! In reference to our retreat in November, THE DATE HAS BEEN
CHANGED. The retreat will be held the weekend of November 13-15 in Port Aransas at
the Sea Horse Inn. Michael Robert, a potential board member, is the owner. The address
and phone number are: Sea Horse Inn

Port Aransas, Texas 78373
