homa, spent several days here

Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Craig of
Sabinal are visiting their daugh-
ter, Mrs. J. Q. Adams.
John Parks cam*i in from Old
Mexico, after an absence of eight
years.
E. Heard, who has been absent
from Batesville for about three
months, returned Saturday.
Rev. Brandon returned from
Frio Town Sunday evening. He
reports things flourishing in that
section.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Chiles went
to La Pryor Monday on busi-
ness, returning Tuesday after-
noon.
L. A. Pond is moving back
to Batesvill9 from La Pryor. Mr.
Pond moved to La Pryor just a
few months ago.
The teachers of the Methodist
church will hold regular weekly
meetings every Thursday at 8:45

410 steers were brought up
from the Galvan ranch in Webb
county and placed on the Landa
& Story ranch.
Houston West and J. L. Minter
of Uvalde passed through Tues-
day afternoon with a bunch of
cattle from the Fatheree ranch.
Misses Norma and Clara
Trebes, accompanied by Miss
Mary Holmes, spent Saturday
and Sunday on the Trebes ranch.
The young folks congregated at
the Methodist church Sunday
evening and held singing services
as there was no regular services.
Mrs. Riley JWare came in from
her ranch on business accom-
panied by Miss Southall. They
are the guests of Judge and Mrs.
Geo. C. Herman.
Judge O. A. Mills left this
morning for Austin where he
goes to have the bond record of
La Pryor School District No. 4
approved by the attorney-gen-
eral.
R. W. Parker of San Antonio,
traveling salesman for the Under-
wood Typewriter company, spent
sevaral days in Batesville last
week in the interest of that firm".
He left Monday for Uvalde.
Zay Smith of San Antonio,
engaged in the tin and sheet
metal business in that city, came
through Batesville Sunday, after
spending a week hunting on the
Ottenhouse ranch.
H. H. Brooks, general sales
agent for the Lone Star Culvert
Company of Houston, was in
Batesville Monday and Tuesday.
He secured orders for consider
able corrugated galvanized iron
culverts to be put down in Zavala
county
Hugh L. Taylor of Fort Worth,
brother of United States senator
Robert L. Taylor of Tennessee,
was here Friduy and Saturday
of last week representing the
Bankers Mortgage Loan Co. of
Oklahoma City. He tells a little
anecdote that occurred during
the time that his two brothers,
Alf and Bob were opposing cand-
idates for governor, on the dem-
ocratic and republican ticket. A
number of friends endeavo?.d
to get their father to run on the
socialist ticket, but he declined,
saying that he thought two of a
family quite sufficient in the race
and it did not make any material
difference which one of the boss
was elected, he would be gov
ernor. __
