'The Tiger 70’
Wins Award
‘The Tiger 70’, student
newspaper at Mercedes high
school, has been presented
a certificate from the In-
terscholastic League Press
Conference “for outstanding
quality and being placed in
the highest rank of Texas
school newspapers in its
classification for this school
year”.
The ‘Award of Distin-
guished Merit in Journal-
ism’ is signed by Max R.
Haddick, Director of the
ILPC.
Karcher Warns
Weather conditions, in-
cluding soil moisture, are
not the best for using her-
bicides, points out County
Agent Dutch Karcher, there-
fore it is doubly important
that label instructions be
carefully followed.
The few minutes required
to read and understand the
label before using herbicides
could be some of the most
important time spent all
year.
Crop injury or poor weed
control or even unmarket-
able products can be avoid-
ed by following the safe us-
age directions on the label,
explains the county agent.
Labels list the crop on
which the herbicide may be
used, give the application
rate and time and other in-
formation on safe handling
and storage of the product.
