VA Hospital
Santiago de la Cerda, 42,
a lifetime Mercedes resi-
dent, died Saturday in the
Veterans* Administration
Hospital at Kerrville,
He was a member of the
American Legion and a
World War FI veteran.
Survivors are his wife,
Mrs. Beatrice de la Cerda;
three sons, Juan, Javier and
Jimmy de la Cerda; two dau-
ghters, Dahlia and Diana de
la Cerda; and parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Juan de la Cerda,
all of Mercedes,
Other survivors include
two brothers, Segundo de la
Cerda of Mercedes and Sal-
vador de la Cerda of Corpus
Christi; and four sisters.
Mrs. Celia Cantu of San
Antonio, Mrs. Sara Garza
of Harlingen, Mrs. Senovia
Castaneda and Mrs. Sylvia
Castaneda, both of Merce-
des.
Funeral services were
conducted Monday in El
Principe Paz Presbyterian
church with the Rev, Fernan-
do Padilla officiating. Burial
was in the Presbyterian Ce-
metery.
Stotler Mortuary directed.
Dunson Rites
At Graveside
Graveside services were
Wednesday at 4 p.m, at the
Ebony Grove Cemetery for
Bartow Guy Dunson, 76,
who died Monday at Mercy
Hospital in Brownsville.
He was born in Dexter,
Texas and moved to the Val-
ley in 1908. He was a long
time resident of Mercedes
and in recent years made
his home in Port Isabel. He
was a veteran of World War
I.
The Rev. Boyd Harris of
the First United Methodist
Church officiated at the ser-
vices. Stotler Mortuary was
in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dunson is survived by
a sister, Mrs. T. J. Rippert
of Port Isabel and one bro-
ther, Fred Dunson Sr, of Port
Isabel.
Also surviving are seven
nephews and nieces, Fred
Dunson Jr. of Portland, Ore.;
Gene Dunson of Houston,
Jack Dunson Jr. of Kennedy,
Mrs. H. H. Somnitz of Port
Isabel, Mrs. W. B. Barn-
ford of San Antonio, Mrs.
R. C. Jones of Mercedes
and Miss Billy Dunson of
Houston.
Arrangements
To Be Announced
Anatolio Zuniga, 89, along
time resident of Mercedes
died Tuesday in Knapp Mem-
orial Methodist hospital.
Funeral arrangements are
incomplete and will be an-
nounced by Garcia and T re-
vino Funeral Home.
He is survived by a son,
Pedro Zuniga of Toledo,
Ohio; six daughters, Mrs.
Refugia Casares of El Paso,
Mrs. Juanita Juarez, Orange
Cove, Cal., Mrs. Josefina
Anzaldua, Mrs. Viviana Mo-
reno, Miss Enedina Zuniga
and Mrs. Maria Cavazos all
of Mercedes.
Also surviving are 36
grandchildren and several
great grandchildren.
Funeral Plans
Are Pending
Funeral services are pen-
ding for Margarito Serra of
Mercedes. He died Monday
at Knapp Memorial Hospital,
Serra, 61, was born and
lived all his life in Merce-
des. He was a member of
the First Mexican Baptist
Church.
Survivors include one son,
Ricardo Serra of Mercedes;
two brothers, Manuel Serra
of Mercedes and Jose Ca-
vazos of Kingsville; and five
sisters, Mrs. Manuela Cas-
tillo of Scotch Bluff, Neb.,
Mrs. Maria Bocanegra of La
Feria, Mrs, Monica Saenz
of Mercedes, Miss Josefa
Serra of Harlingen and Mrs.
Petra Chavez of Weslaco.
Services will be announc-
ed \by Stotler Mortuary.
