week end her as guests of Mr.

Ellis Pyle returned the early
part of this week from New
York City where he had spent
several days in the home of his
brother, Capt. J. H. Pyle, and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. David Ellis were
recent guests of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Drew Scull.
Mrs. R J. Carlisle, Sr., of
Papalote was a business visitor
in Odem Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Heinsohn
were in Beeville Sunday visit-
ing his oarents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Heinsohn. They report that
Mr. Heinsohn’s mother is ill, and
has been confined to her bed
for several days.
Mrs. R. C. Bennett and child-
ren, Terry and Paula, of Vic-
toria arrived Saturday for
visit with relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. John Bandy were
among those from Odem who
were “white winging” in the Rio
Grande Valley last week.

to visit Mr. H. L. Lane, Sr., and

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch

field and daughter, Cindy, were
recent visitors to Mexico.
Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Evans and
family spent from Friday thru
Sunday fishing on the Nueces
River.
Mrs. C. S. Matlock and son
Lonnie of Corsicana arrived in
Odem last week to make their
home with Mr. and Mrs. Kelton
Matlock.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Stein have
moved their house from the
center of their three lots to the
south side of the lots. Their
property is located in Compton-
Cooper Addition.
Mrs. Inez Coonrod and her
daughter, Miss Winnell Coonrod,
spent last week end out of town.
Mrs. Coonrod was in San An-
tonio with her mother, Mrs.
Ethel Hughes, and Miss Coon-
rod visited friends and relatives
in Brady.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Taber of
Corpus Christi and Mrs. Eddy
Perry of Alice were visitors in
the home of Mrs. Mary Boggus
Friday.
Mrs. J. S. Edgar received word
of the death of her uncle, J. B.
Thompson, last Wednesday. Mr.
Thompson was in (the garage
business-in Robstown for a num-
ber of years before moving to
Marietta, Oklahoma.

ton spent the week-end here
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
S. P. Stanley.
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Mobler
and Mr. McCarthy of Corpus
Christi visited Mrs. Mary Bog-
gus Thursday evening.

Star chapter at Sinton Tuesday
evening.
Mrs. Bill Jenkins and .Mary
Jane returned Saturday from
Big Lake, where Mrs. Jenkins
was called because of the illness
of her motner, Mrs. Arky Glide-
well. Her mother is improving
nicely, Mrs. Jenkins reported on
her return.
Mrs. J. A. Meador, Mrs. Lynn
Lowe, and Mrs. R. E. Turner
were shopping in Corpus Christi
Monday of this week.
Mrs. Wallace Birkhead, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Mendez, and Mrs.

Mrs. R. E. Turner, Saturday.

Wedding Ceremonies

ODEM—Justice Bob Whitten
officiated at two weddings over
the week-end. On Friday after-
noon at five o’clock he perform-
ed the ceremony which united
in marriage Miss Francisco Gom-
ez and Seberino Villarreal. The
wedding was in the home of the
bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Leanardo Gomez, Sr. Only a
few friends and relatives attend-
ed.
Miss Alice Ward and Albert
Miles, both of Corpus Christi,
were married at the Whitten
home at 7:15 Saturday evening
with Justice Whitten perform-
ing the double-ring ceremony.

Entertains Her
Class of Junior Girls
ODEM—Mrs. J. D. Huntsinger
entertained her class of Junior
girls from the Baptist Sunday
School with a party in Sinton
Saturday afternoon from 2:00
to 5:30 p. m. Each girl was
given the privilege of inviting
a guest.
A private skating party was
enjoyed at the Sinton rink, and
then the group went to Welder
Park where they had a picnic
lunch. Those present for the
outing were: Lydia Ruth Hig-
ginbotham, Carolyn Weatherly,
Freddy Kay Smith, Bette Lynn
Wells, Carol Huntsinger, Carolyn
Wells, Glenda Faye Brown, Ed-
gar Whitten, Darrell Phelps, Har-
ry Lenn Phelps, Robert Sims,
Brent Huntsinger, Raymond Per-
rin, and Johnnie Huntsinger.

ODEMITES DRIVE TO
EDINBURG MONDAY
ODEM—Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Smith, Mrs. Katie Ezell, and
Mrs. Carter Ezell drove to Ed-
inburg Monday morning. Mrs.
Katie Ezell will remain there to
be with her daughter, Mrs. Hen-
ry Lebleu, while Mr. Lebleu
is a surgical patient in an Ed-
inburg hospital. The ether mem-
bers of the party returned home
on Tuesday
Mr. and Mrs. Charles DeWitt
and son, Charles, Jr., left Wed-
nesday for their home in Beau-
mont following a pleasant visit
with Mrs. DeWitt’s sisters, Mrs.
James Williams and Mrs. Bob
Stalcup and their famlies.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thornton
were business visitors in Cor
pus Christi Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Milner
have returned from a visit with
relatives in Waco. They ar-
rived home Thursday.
Mrs. Willis Mayfield and Mrs.
Bobby Mayfield and daughter,
Donna, of Taft vsited Mrs. Jack
Thornton Friday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Smithson
left Friday for Marfa where they
will visit in, the home of Mr.
Smithson’s brother, Jim Smith-
son. The return trip will” be
made by way of Wingate for
a viist with relatives there. The
couple expect to be away two
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Hutchison
are spending their vacation vis-
iting points on the East Coast.
They left Thursday of last week,
and expect to visit relatives in
Mississippi before going on to
New York. They plan to be
away for two weeks or longer
Mrs. R. B. White accompanied
her daughter, Miss Jean White,
and Miss Janet Myrick to Bee-
ville Monday night of last week
where they attended a Rain-
bow Girls’ installation.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Scull
and Floyd Scull were business
visitors in Corpus Christi Wed-
nesday.
Miss Beth Thornton of Sinton
spent Sunday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thornton in
Edroy.

Mrs. W. E. Warren were dinner

Mrs. R. J. Beaman in Corpus

SUNBEAM BAND HOLDS
STEWARDSHIP HOUR
AT REGULAR MEETING
ODEM—The Sunbeam Band of
the Baptist Church held a stew-
ardship hour at their regular
meeting last Monday.
The watchwords, rally cry and
hymn formed the opening exer-
cises of the meeting. The story
of Joseph’s coat of many colors
was told by Mrs. Bowman. The
children told the things they
were thankful for. Mrs. Bow-
man read ihe 100th Psalm and
Malachi 3:10.
Mrs. Horace Smith was elect-
ed new leader for the Band.
Mrs. Clark led in prayer, and
the group sang before the bene-
diction was given by Mrs. Bow-
man.

Family Get-Together
EDROY—Mrs. James Williams
honored her sister, Mrs. Charles
DeWitt, and family of Beaumont
with a family get-together Sun-
day afternoon. Delicious home-
made icecream and cake were
served.
Those present for the pleasant
occasion were Dr. and Mrs. L. N.
Connally, Mrs. W. L. Connally
and Mr. and Mrs. John Impson,
all of Beeville; Mr. and Mrs.
R. E. Stalcup, Bobby and Cheryl;
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Pierce; and
Mr. and Mrs. Williams and sons,

Has Birthday Party
ODEM—Mrs. Charlie Spieker-
mann honored her daughter,
Sandra, with a birthday party
Saturday afternoon from four to
six o’clock. Much merriment
and enthusiasm went into the
games played. The birthday
cake, a pale green confection
with yellow decorations, was
nestled in a wreath of Esperanza
bells on a dark green lace cloth.
Refreshments of birthday cake
and pink lemonade were served
the little honoree and her
guests, Madeleine Eads, Suzy
Eads, Patricia Mertz, Burma
Hall, Linda Kay Frankel, Or-
ville Maxwell, Sidney Mattingly,
J ohnny Huntsinger, Michael
Speikermann, Martin Spieker-
mann, and Charles Fred Spiek-
ermann. Mrs. Don Hall assisted
Mrs. Spiekermann with the host-
ess duties.
FORMER METHODIST
PASTOR IS VISITOR
IN ODEM
ODEM—The Rev. R. G. Rader
former pastor of the local Meth-
odist Church, spent several days
here last week with friends. He
made his “headquarters” with
Mr .and Mrs. William Whitley,
but visited with numerous
friends while here.
Since his wife passed away in
the early summer, Brother Rad-
er has been making his home
with his daughter, Mrs. Ted
Scarborough, and family at Ed-
couch. He was pastor at Ed-
couch after he left Odem. He
held his last pastorate in San
Antonio. He was retired during
the last annual Methodist con-
ference.
His friends are pleased to
learn that his health is showing
an improvement. It wlil be
remembered that he was quite
ill in the arly spring.

BOBBY CLARK VISITS
FRIENDS IN TENNESSEE
ODEM—Bobby Clark returned
Wednesday of last week from a
visit with his friends, Mr. and
Mrs. Gay Howard, in Chatta-
nooga, Tenn. He made the trip
to Tennessee by bus, but decided
on a bit of adventure in “hitch-
ing” rides home, and he was
exceedingly fortunate in catch-
ing long rides, he reported. He
came from Chattanooga to
Shreveport in four “hops”. Tex-
as is the hardest state in which
to catch a long ride, Bobby
found. He travelled through sev-
en states on his visit, and he will
add Oklahoma to the list this
week, he thinks. He reported
for induction into the Army
Monday, and he expects to be at
Ft. Sill, Oklahoma before the
week end
Mrs. W. R. Grice was a busi-
ness visitor in Odem Saturday
morning .
Mrs. J. D. Huntsinger and Miss
Carol Huntsinger spent a few
hours in Odem Saturday.
