The meeting held at the Church of
Christ, which began June 7th, closed
Sunday night, which being responded
to by only one—that of placing mem-
bership with this congregation, was
not a failure by any means, for all
who attended these services were
bound to have gotten some spiritual
food for thought. We feel that such
meetings or gatherings as these of
studying the word of our Lord, are
or should be an uplift to all men.
This was a very short meeting on
account of the fact that arrangements
have to be made for tjte meeting
which begins next Friday night at
Barksdale. Brother Stevens is to do
the preaching. Everyone has a cordial
invitation to attend these services.

The company is pleased to announce
a 2 cent reduction in the first step of
the domestic and commercial lighting
rates, which went into effect imme-
diately after the June reading.
Current now being used is based on
the lower rate, ana your next bill re-
flects the reduction.
T he reduction of these rate schedules is in
line with our policy of continuing our rate re-
duction, and is made possible by a wider and
increased use of Electricity, along with the
fact that Rocksprings is now being furnished
from our transmission lines.
T his further decrease is offered to our custo-
mers to encourage a more general use of light
and other electrical devices in the home and
office.

is not merely the training of the mind. In the
ling of the term education means the de-
all the powers of man. A great man once said
Is Complete Living.”
by some iffimformed people that an education
us in after life. Some people say that a student
) leads his classes in school usually makes a failure in
... “ What is the use of going to school studying old unin-
teresting^subjects, day in and day out,” they say.
By quitting school one has more liberty, and is able to
five a small salary. He is not cooped up.in the school
fom all the’time. But looking at thisTrom another point,
i js like a young carpenter who starts out to work lor
limself. He has all kinds of tools of the very best kind, but
ley are-all very dull. He starts in to sharpen them and
ides he is wasting time and begins his work. The labor-
are paid according to the work they do. This fellow
Tth the dull tools works hard all of the time and never
receives the wages of his comrades who have taken time
to sharpen their tools. This is the way with education. If
we don’t train our minds we will never be what we could
have been. We will spend all our lives working vviih dull
tools.
By quitting school we miss many opportunities which
will never Come to us again in all our lives. We lose the op-
, portdnity of college training, which is a great advantage
to anyone. We lose, also the chance to enter any of tne
professions, such as law, medicine, engineering, business,
etc. The professional man is an educated man and without
an education no one may hope to follow a worthwhile pro-
fession. _
The boy who quits school, throws away the chance of
gaining prominence among his fellow man. Someone says,
“my father quit school in the fourth grade and he is a suc-
cessful man.” This is due to the fact that times have chang-
ed. Opportunities of the present time are much different
from those of a past generation. At the present time we al-
most have to have an education to compete with the edu-
cated people. ■•’•Our fathers \and grandfathers who quit
school in the fourth and fifth grades were associated with
•people of about the same training. If we expect to hold
our own with the educated people, we must strive for an
education.
An educated man is not a follower, but a leader. He is
able to solve his own problems and solve them wisely. He
is able when hqjreads, or. hears things, to form hjs own op-
inions. Today, as never before, knowledge is power and
the man who knows, is the man who leads.
To be a good citizen and an intelligent voter is one of
the greatest aims of education. Even if a person has no de-
sire to become a statesman he owes it to his country to
become an educated citizen and an intelligent voter. Most
of the tiiqq each candidate for election fries ter put down
his opponent in every way possible. He may print babies
in a light manner have things circulated over the country
that are entirely false. An educated person will not be de-
ceived easily by, these things, neither will he be led oft'
by any radicial beliefs.
From a 'financial standpoint, education is a great in-
vestment. The earning power of a student with common
school education ranges, on an average of from six hun-
dred to six huhdred fifty dollars per year. The learning
power of a student having a high school education ranges
from about fifteen .hundred to eighteen hundred dollars
per year. It has bcCn learned that ©Very day spent in high
school is worth twenty five dollars to us. Each day spent
in college is worth a great deal more than that.
Thfe man who graduates with high honors, instead of
being unfitted for success by .his extra '‘book learning”
is about seven times as likely to become successful as the
others taking their diplomas with them. But the greatest
of all advantages to be gained from education are the cul-
ture and refinement that education gives. The educated
person ?s able to mix and mingle with all kinds of people
at all times. He is able to discuss intelligently any subject
that may. come up. All doors are open to the man or wo-
man with culture and refinement. This alone should make
education a goal for every boy and girf to work toward.

The church was built up and en-
couraged to attain greater accomplish-
ments by our protracted meeting. We j
were thankful indeed to have many
of our friends come and attend the
meeting with us. There was a time
when the word preached did not pro-
fit the hearers, not being mixed with
faith by them that heard Heb. 4.2,
but we trust the word preached dur-
ing the meeting may find its way in-
to the hearts of our many hearers and
weight of glory, for Jesus says the
truth makes us free by knowing it.
There will be preaching Sunday
