WIPE OUT SCREWWORMS -- Another $1.7 million is needed to
reach the goal set by Southwestern livestock producers and sportsmen
to eradicate the screwworm from Texas and the Southwest. These
men are carrying on an intensive campaign this month to reach this
goal, Walter Schaefer, chairman of the county animal health com-
mittee, has announced. The program, which has been operational
sttice February, involves the release of sterile screwworm flies
.over infested areas of the Southwest by airplanes. Mr. Schaefer
says there is still time to contribute to this project. Warren Heint-
schel, County Animal Helath committee treasurer, said that all
banks in Fayette County will receive contributions.

Garbage Rates “
Discussed by
City Council
The La Grang City Council met
Wednesday evening, Oct. 10 at the
City Hall and discussed the gar-
bage rates.
The discussion came about after
rejecting the proposal of a person
who requested to have his garbage
charge stopped as he claimed he
had no garbage to collect.
A utility committee was approv-
ed to make a survey and get a
better idea of who, if any, de-
serve to pay more than 75#.
The Council voted to take action
on annexation of about 2 acres
of land in the proposed Weber
addition. A public hearing will
be held on Oct. 24 in regard to
the annexation.
Edgar von Minden was approved
as a parttime caretaker at the
Fair Grounds and it was voted to
limit the use of mowing machine
and power saw to the City limits
and the La Grange taxpayers.
Other machinery could be leased
or rented at a profit to the City,
it was pointed out.
A committee reported on a sur-
vey which had been made on the
wages of the Street and Bridge
crew and it was' voted to raise
the men on this crew. Hourly,
the men will receive a 10 cents
per hour increase, and monthly,
$15. more. The increase was
made effective as of Oct. 1.
