Community Center fund
nears half-way mark
The efforts of the Kingsland
Community Center to raise $5,000 in
contributions slowed this week with
only $280 in contributions, but
optimism remained high as the drive
neared the half-way mark.
"Contributions were a little slow
this week, but we still have time to
reach the goal if everyone will help
out," said treasurer Leo Poye.
"Remember, we just have 45 days to
reach the goal of $5,000. If we do
that, then the Highland Lakes Senior
Center has promised to match that
amount to help us pay off the
building."
The Kingsland Community Cen-
ter, located a short distance from the
Kingsland Hills Care Center, still
owes about $60,000 to pay off the
building. Address your contribution
to the Kingsland Community Center,
P.O. Box 1143, Kingsland, TX 78639
or call Poye at 915/388-3268. The
total contributions as of Monday
were $2,230.

The monthly pot luck supper this
month doesn't sound like a lot of fun.
but we'll try to make it so anyway.
Once each year the organizations
that function under the umbrella of
the Buchanan Community Center
must give a report. That has always
been at theOanuary pot luck supper,
and will be so again this year. It isn't
exciting, but I think you will find it
interesting to learn how much is
earned, how much is donated, and
how much must be spent to keep the
center, the VFD and EMS function-
ing. This is done entirely by
volunteers and you are the benefi-
ciary.
The pot luck is scheduled for 6:30,
followed by the meeting. You might
bring cards, dominoes, etc., and
plan to stay for a further evening of
games with old and new acquain-
tances. Or improvise entertainment.
But do plan to attend the supper,
bring a covered dish to share and
your tableware, and hear of all the
hard work being done for you
through the Red Barn.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Thursday, January 15 — The
Genealogical Society will meet this
morning at 10 at the Herman Brown
Library in Burnet. You are invited to
come. Don't wait for a special
invitation. You will be welcomed!
The Thursday Afternoon Crafts,
Cards 'n' Chess will meet from 1 to 4
at the Red Barn. We hope you are
talking to your friends about enjoy-
ing the fellowship that this oppor-
tunity makes possible. For informa-
tion about chess, call Mary Merritt at
915/379-3561. The Lakeshore
Squares will hold workshop from
7:30 to 8 at the Red Barn, fol-
lowed by club dancing until about 10
p.m.
