time, no near-by market and no means
of reaching distant mar Wet a. The
trees grew and produced, but the crop
didn't pay. The Californian bceiime
discouraged aud the property passed
to other hands. And today the trees
are growing, producing and paying.
The leading crops, in the matter of
acreage and quantity, are onions, spin-
ach, potatoes, cabbage, turnii>s, beets,
lettuce and tomatoes; but anything
that grows on a vine, a stem or a tree,

During the past and present seasons
the shipment* of plants, fruits and veg-
etables from the, diff< rent imints in
the Winter Garden district have ag-
gregated thousands of cars, but it is
only during rodent y* ars that the grow-
ing and shipping of citrus fruits
has been a matter of consequence,
but today thousands of these trees are
nearing the producing stage, and many
are in full fruitage.
