Ft. Worth Bordered by Beautiful Lake Worth
THOUGH SEPARATED, IT'S ALL CONVAIR—These striking, aerial views show
plants of Convair's two divisions. Above, a B-36 bomber, built at the Ft. Worth,
Tex., plant, cruises above Lake Worth, one source of the area's domestic water
supply and also the source of Convair's electric power. Bordering the lake in right
background is the great Air Force plant, under lease to Convair. In left background
is Carswell Air Force Base where the 8th Air Force is placing Convair-built B-36's
in operation. Convair and Carswell planes operate from the runways separating the
plant and the base. Below, the San Diego plant appears with San Diego Bay as
background. The vessels are Navy craft. Land at right background is Coronado
Island near the Naval Air Base. The airfield is Lindbergh Field and the highway
adjoining Convair is Pacific boulevard, main coastal entrance from the north. The
Ft. Worth plant covers more than 400 acres and was begun in April, 1941. The
San Diego plant, dedicated Oct. 30, 1935, includes 32 buildings and 2,600,000
square feet of factory space.
