Commissioners finalize
2015 in special meeting
Winkler County
Commissioners’ Court worked
throughout the morning
Thursday, Dec. 31 in a special
meeting in order to take care of
end-of-the-year business as 2015
came to a close.
Commissioners approved
the 2015 tax roll as presented by
Tax Assessor-Collector Minerva
Soltero and then accepted
presentation of her continuing
education transcript for 2015 as
evidence of compliance with the
property tax code.
The Court then appointed
Kermit hires
Indian teacher
In order to address the
shortage of qualified teachers,
Kermit I.S.D. hired its third
international teacher from India
last Wednesday.
After coming out of
executive session which began
at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.
30, trustees voted to hire Neha
Gottleib to teach seventh grade
science at Kermit Junior High.
She has two masters and two
bachelors degrees as well as two
years teaching experience.
In addition Kermit has hired
two additional international
teachers.
Vivek Ghonasgi will be
teaching seventh grade math.
Ghonasgi has 20 years teaching
experience as well as dual
bachelor degrees and a master’s
degree in physics.
With bachelor degrees in
education and biology and a
master’s degree in zoology,
Bhawna Sharma will be teaching
fifth grade science and has 11
years teaching experience.
The teachers are expected to
arrive in a few weeks.
Angie Sims and John Walton to
the Memorial Hospital Board of
Control for two-year terms.
Appointed to the Senior
Citizens Board for two-year
terms were Karen Mitchell,
Sarah Roberts, LaRon Fulbright
and Ann Taylor.
Named to the Golf Course
Advisory Board for two-year
terms were Tarry Max Warren,
Clay Mitchell and Mike
Emmerson.
Johnny Armendariz was
re-appointed as the county fire
marshal for 2016.
Appointed as county
registrar and assistant registrar
for 2016 were Shethelia Reed
and Pam Greene.
Named as representative
to the Permian Basin Regional
Planning Commission for 2016
was County Judge Charles Wolf.
Other county officers
appointed Thursday were Kermit
librarian Laurie Shropshire,
Wink assistant librarian Bonnie
Roberts, meals program director
Robin Hawkins, hospital liaison
officer Felicia Jamison, county
maintenance engineer Mark
Terry, extension agent for

senior citizens recreation center

Geneva Baker.
Named to the health
insurance committee were Don
Crawford, George Keely and
Lorenzo Servano.
Deputies, assistants,
secretaries and stenographers
were approved for county judge,
county auditor, district clerk,
professional prosecutor, county
attorney, county tax assessor-
collector, sheriff, county clerk,
probation officer, juvenile
probation officer, county

Warrant
round-up
scheduled
Kermit Police Department
will be initiating an on-going
warrant round-up for persons who
have outstanding warrants which
have not been paid.
Municipal Judge Teddy
Baremore explained that Kermit
police officers will not only
be knocking on doors of local
residents, but they will also be
visiting places of employment
to arrest individuals who have
unpaid fines.
Anyone with questions
regarding the upcoming warrant
round-up may call Kermit
Municipal Court at (432) 586-
2577 and speak with either Judge
Baremore or Terri Autrey.
Warrant lists are published in
this edition on pages 8, 9 and 10.
Library, 4-H
seeking food
donations
Winkler County Library and
the Winkler-Loving 4-H have
joined forces and are seeking
donations of food items needed to
replenish the Ministerial Alliance
Food Bank.
Local and area residents are
asked to bring non-perishable
food items to Winkler County
Library in Kermit.
The food drive will continue
until Friday, Jan. 29.
KHS Council
to host blood
drive Jan. 11
The Kermit High School
Student Council will be holding
a blood drive on Monday.
KHS Student Council
sponsor Evelyn Lockwood
announced today that the Council
will be holding a blood drive
Monday, Jan. 11 from 1 until 6
p.m. in the KHS commons area.
The Drive is being conducted
by United Blood Services
and special Tee-shirts will be
presented to donors.
Sixteen year old students
must have a signed minor donor
permit in order to donate blood.
Students are also asked to bring
a picture identification card and
a donor card if possible.
County Judge
hears guilty pleas
Winkler County Court at
Law Judge Charles Wolf heard
three guilty pleas recently.
Carolyn Sue Derrick
pleaded guilty to the charge of
possession of a dangerous drug
and was fined $1,000 plus court
costs of $297.
On the charge of possession
of marijuana, Carlos Alberto
Carrasco pleaded guilty and was
fined $1,000 plus court costs of
$297.
Charged with possession
of a controlled substance in
penalty group 2, Edgar Dylan
Alarcon was sentenced to serve
90 days in county jail and pay
court costs of $408 within 90
days of release from jail.

Everett however most of you
may know me by the nickname
“Booger”. I am announcing my

Commissioner Precinct 1 and

upcoming Republican Primary.
Before becoming an EMT
I worked on my grandfather’s
farm around and with heavy
machinery, in the construction
industry and supervised a
restaurant.
I have lived in Kermit
and worked for the Emergency
Medical Service for 20 years.
I started my career in Kermit
as an EMT-Basic in 1995 and
worked here full time while
furthering my education to the
Paramedic level.
In 20001 left for 2 years but
continued working here part-
time. I jumped at the chance
to come back here in 2002 and
have been the EMS Chief for 13
years writing budgets, policies,
protocols and supervising
several employees along with
answering 911 calls and making
out of town patient transfers. I
also wrote and received several

KERI CARTER JONES
I would like to publically
announce my candidacy for
commissioner of Winkler
County Precinct 3. My name
is Keri Carter Jones. I certainly
don’t consider myself a
politician, but an advocate for
my fellow human beings. I
am a leader and I feel that
my profession has taught
me to have compassion and
understanding for others and I
do try to always be fair, honest
and take responsibility for what
I say or do.
I was born in Texas and I
have been a resident of Winkler
County for thirty-seven years. I
have two sons, born and raised
in Kermit, both graduated
from Kermit Schools. I am
married to Kerry Jones, owner
and operator of Gasoline Alley
Service Station. I attended
Kermit Schools and I have an
Associate’s degree in Applied
Science, from Odessa College.
I have been a nurse for thirty-
two years, seventeen of those,
working for Winkler County at
the Winkler County Memorial
Hospital as a nurse in several
capacities. The last seven years
I have been in a supervisory
position, the last three years
I have been the Director of

Wilson asks
for new term
as Constable
I, Lee Wilson, am
announcing my candidacy for
Constable of Precinct 2, 2A and
4. I am a Veteran of the United
States Military, serving both
overseas and at home. I have
spent a significant amount of
my life serving and protecting
others in the Military and
Winkler County.
I have lived in Wink for 41
years. During this time I was a
welder, pumper and I served as
Deputy Sheriff for the Winkler
County Sheriff’s office for 2
years and was promoted to
Chief Deputy where I held that
position for 16 years. When I
retired I ran for the office of
Constable, Precinct 2, 2A and 4
where I am presently serving.
I am married to Mary
Wilson, who taught school at
Wink Loving ISD for 30 years.
Together we have two daughters,
Geta Mitchell and Tina Dipprey.
Both daughters have achieved a
Master’s Degree in their chosen
professions. Geta married Rick
Mitchell and has two children
Jace, age 15, and Linly, age 11.
Tina married Jared Dipprey and
has three children Kaylee, age
11, Kara, age 8, and Hudson,
age 5.
