UVALDE. —i Vice-President and
Mrs. John N. Garner, arrived here
Monday from Washington hopeful that
they would be able to spend their
first Christmas at home since 1933.
Mr. Garner commented upon his ar-
rival that the recent special session
of Congress had been “the busiest I’ve
seen in several years." Mrs. Garner,
who acts as the Vice-President’s sec-
retary, said he had been busier than
at any time since lie had been Vice-
President.
The smiling president of the Sen-
ate said he was anxious to “get out in
the country.”
Since deer season does not open for
several days, Mr. Garner said he
would go fishing.
OSLO.—The Norwegian govern-
ment has rejected a German dfmand
that the United States freighter City
of Flint be interned despite the fact
Norawy had released the ship and in-
terned her German prize crew.
In a formal statement the govern-
ment said the Germans had brought
the captive ship into port at Hauges-
und contrary to Norwegian orders.
The German commander was quoted
by the statement as saying he acted
“according to orders from my govern-
ment”
He asserted he wanted to confer
with the German consul at Hauge-
sund, 75 miles south of Bergen, be-
fore attempting to run the British
North Sea blockade to a German port.
Previously he had given as his rea-
son that a sick member of the Am-
erican crew needed medical attention.
A Norwegian doctor visited the ship
and found the man’s injuries “insigni-
ficant” before the vessel anchored, the
communique said.
The German commander was said to
have agreed to refrain from anchoring
but did so anyway. The Norwegian an-
nouncement said this violated interna-
tional law and that in consequence
the German crew was interned and
the ship returned to her American
commander Friday.
