Bouncing Radar Waves Off Sun I
Few in the Gulf Coast an a
probably know that an obscure

The Solar Radar Station 1 SI’Si
a bran h of the Massachusetts In-
stitute of Technology tMITd is a

has b<x t) .“shooting ihe sun" wit!i
radar s gnals since 19111.
SRS is preseiidv the only gim'ji
ir the U. S making this kind ol
experiment, which is designed to
learn more about thi^ physics
the sun
Dr Jesse James, Proj *i;t Dir-

says that each day radar waves
are direct el at the solar mass
A huge antenna resembling bund
t.i ds of e oliies lines covering a-
botit an acre is employed to
send tlv radar waves on their
multi-million mile trip,
“It takes about lft-17 minutes
for a radar wave to make a
round trip from SRS to the sun
and back to earth," Dr. James
said. ‘'Many waves'are sent dur-
ing each test. When they re-
turn to earth and are recorded,
the experiment is then repeated."
A staggering amount of data is
collected by the complex of elec-
tronic equipmenti and the results
must be “condensed" to the low-
est common denonumatdr either
manually or by machines
“It is very time consuming
to send the data from the tests
all the way to MIT. and it is
less desirab e to compute the in-
formation manually." he added.
To speed up his operation. Dr.
James has enlisted the assistance
of the Data Processing Center at
Whuitqn County Junior College
WcJC Center Director Mr. Alton

of tcvhrbeMl data and feisling it

FAMILY LAWYER

“I have conic to r possess your
sewing machine," the burly visit-
or annonm “i. “You are behind in
ymir payments"
I’ndaunted. the housewife sat
down firmly on top of the sewing
machine. Equally undaunted, the
mail tilled it sideways, threw her
to the floor, and stalked off with
the machine.
The indignant woman lost no
time in siting the sewing machine
company for damages. And the
court ruled in her favor. The
fudge said that, even though the
| e< mpnnv had a legal right to
I the machine, it had no right to
j take possession by the use ol
j force.
Tn th” typical conditional sal",
lcca' title remains in the seller
until all the payments are com-
pleted. Tf the customer should
default, the seller is entitled to
repossess the merchandise.
Rut the law puts limits on the
manner in which repossession
may be accomplished. Violent
means are not allowed. Even if a
clause in the ronlraet specifically
authorizes a strong-arm retaking,
Ihe law will generally disapprove
of it anyhow — as a matter of
sound public poO-y.
Furthermore, the repossessor
must not foree his way onto the
premises. Take this ease:
A team of repossessors, going
to recover a piano, found no one
at the debtor's home They
promptly gained access by break-
ing through a locked door, and
decamped with the piano.
But, because of this forcible
trespass the company was held
liable to the debtor for
On the other hand, the
has no objection lo reposs
when fairly carried out. Thus:
A rr possessor seeking a

i But the court in this case ug

i taking had been achieved
peaceful means, involving neith
personal violence nor tre‘pass.
In shrrl, the repossessor
merely used a simple and in
