Splitting Aguas is Lisa Alvarado's first opportunity to show her work outside of San Antonio since
her photography project in Barcelona. In January 2002, Alvarado participated in Cheech Marin's
Chicano Visions American Painters Exhibition, contributing a mural that travels with the show to
the Smithsonian Museum ofArt,Washington DC, and then to the National Hispanic Cultural Center
in Albuquerque, New Mexico.Alvarado's photography has been nationally recognized by Popular
Photography Magazine, (Sept. 2002) whose editors chose her photograph to represent the city of
San Antonio in its effort to turn its Fotoseptiembre into a national event.
As a student artist at San Antonio College,Alvarado has become a member of the Student Art
Guild and served as its president. She has received several art scholarships, participated in many
exhibits, and donated her work to various foundations.
Her involvement with the fine arts began in high school, where she was recognized as the
school's 1999 Artist of the Year. Her work flourished as a member of SAY Si, the young high school
artist program at The Blue Star Arts Complex, and she has since continued to
participate in San Antonio's art scene.
