The Sinton High School varsity and junior var-
sity cheerleaders attended the the Universal
Cheerleading Camp (UCA) at the University of
Texas in Austin, June 20-23, bringing home sever-
al trophies, ribbons and a leadership award.
Senior students Kayla Culpepper, Lea Ybanez
and Ashley Trevino, tried out and were selected
for the All Stars, earning a chance to go to London
to take part in the New Year’s Day parade. They
were also asked to try out for the UCA staff this
fall.
Both squads came home with many superior
ribbons. The varsity girls were named Extreme
Routine Camp Champs and the jv squad was
named Most Improved Squad.
The leadership awards are given as all the
camp attendees vote "for the squad they would
want to be a part of.”
Only seven girls out of more than 200 were
asked to try out for the UCA staff and Sinton High
School had the most girls asked.
“This was also the first time ever that any SHS
cheerleader had been asked to try out for the
staff,” said Coach Adriana Lopez
Chamber golf tourney hosts 26 teams

Twenty-six teams participated
in the 12th annual Chamber of
Commerce Golf tournament
June 18-19, at the Sinton
Municipal Golf Course at Rob
and Bessie Welder Park.

Laura King was first in the
50/50 drawing.
Thunder in the Park tee shirts

were present where Jaramillo’s
wife, Laura, and son, Lance, a
junior at the University of
Houston, introduced the honoree
and presented a family video.
Jaramillo accepted the award
and paid tribute to his father for
his love and guidance.
Previous recipients of the
prestigious award include
President George Bush, Nolan
Ryan, Rudy Tomjanovich and
Craig Biggio.
Jaramillo is a 1980 graduate
of Sinton High School.
Houston's Mayor Bill White
was also a recipient of this year’s
award.
TDA seeks farms and ranches
for historical recognition
The Texas Department of
Agriculture is looking for applica-
tions for the 2005 Family Land
Heritage program, which recog-
nizes farms and ranches that
have been in continuous agricul-
tural operation by the sarnd fam-
ily for 100,150 end ^00 y£pJ*v ;
Since the program began* in
1974, more than 4,020 farms and
ranches have been recognized in
226 Texas counties.
Agriculture commissioner
Susan Combs said “We must not
forget our past. There was a time
when few buildings and roacjp
could be been on the Texas land-
scape. Instead there were pio-
neer families one after the other
homesteading on a great wilder-
ness, building homes and stak-
ing claims to the land. This pro-
gram recognizes those pio-
neers.”
Farms and ranches that quali-
fy will be honored during a cere-
mony in Austin in March 2006.
