HEATWAVE PATTERNS
In summer, upper-level high-pressure
domes often settle over North Texas,
producing heat waves that usually last a
week or so. We are currently in the middle
of one of those 100-degree streaks. But
some years, that high gets stuck in place
and persists much longer. In the summer of
1980 the temperature hit 100 or higher for
42 consecutive days, and July 1980 is the
only month when the temperature hit 100
every day of the month.
