Networking group meets
At LSA Burger Co., a group of
North Central Texas College Ex-
Students & Friends Association
members held their first Denton
County Alumni Networking
Program last month. About 50
guests attended to help start net-
working and connect with other
students.
The South Denton County
Alumni networking group will
launch on May 21, with a meet-
ing at Mellow Mushroom in
Flower Mound.
Regents vote to increase
various tuition rates
District to honor Jostens
Teachers of the Year
First State Bank creates
scholarship fund
First State Bank has estab-
lished a scholarship fund with a
$15,000 donation to help stu-
dents who will major in busi-
ness, finance or computer infor-
mation technology.
The first scholarship from
the fund will be available for the
fall semester, and the deadline to
apply is April 15.
The NCTC Regents voted to
increase tuition to $70 per credit
hour for students in-district, to
$118 for students out of the dis-
trict and $200 per credit hour
for students from out of state.
This was a $10 increase for
in-district students, a $16 in-
crease for out-of-district stu-
dents and a $41 increase for stu-
dents from out of state.
Costs will still be lower for
high school students enrolled in

Denton ISD will recognize its
schools’ top educators and its El-
ementary Teacher of the Year
and Secondary Teacher of the
Year at reception Thursday.
The event, set for 5:30 p.m.
at the LaGrone Advanced Tech-
nology Complex at 1504 Long
Road, will recognize 34 educa-
tors named the district’s Jostens
Teachers of the Year for their
outstanding work in the class-
room.

Guyer String Fling
concert set Thursday

Angela Thomas, kindergar-
Guyer High School will cele-
brate its 10th annual String
Fling concert at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday in the Wildcat Gym.
The free event will feature or-
chestras from Guyer High and
its feeder middle and elementa-
ry schools.
Each orchestra will perform
individually and conclude the
show with a combined perfor-
mance.

School slates session
on Internet safety
An informational session,
open to parents and community
members, on Internet safety is
being hosted at 6 tonight at E.P.
Rayzor Elementary School, 377
Rayzor Road in the Lantana
neighborhood.
The session is one of two edu-
cation events the school sched-
uled this week in partnership
with the Center for Missing and
Exploited Children.
On Tuesday, students met
with the center’s representatives
during school hours to discuss
Internet safety.
The group will discuss prop-
er safety measures.
