Elana Meyers
Taylor and pusher Cherrelle Garrett beat three
German crews to win the United States’ first wom-
en’s bobsled world championship.
The Americans led after the first two heats Fri-
day and held in the final two runs Saturday to win
comfortably ahead of Anja Schneiderheinze and
Annika Drazek, completing the four runs in an ag-
gregate time of 3 minutes, 46.47 seconds to beat
the Germans by .43 seconds.
“I am overwhelmed with emotion,” Meyers Taylor
said. “It all came together thanks to great coaches,
teammates and staff1. Everybody worked so hard to
get this, and I’m just so grateful and thankful.”
Meyers Taylor and Garrett broke their own
track record in the third heat, giving them a big
lead of .45 seconds heading into the fourth and fi-
nal run. Jamie Greubel Poser and Lauren Gibbs of
the U.S. were fifth. The third U.S. crew, Jazmine

Harvick edges Logano in Xfinity race
HAMPTON, Ga. — Kevin Harvick turned in
another strong performance Saturday at Atlanta
Motor Speedway, holding off Daytona 500 winner
Joey Logano in the Xfinity Series race.
Harvick has won the Hisense 250 three years in
a row and four times overall. Logano has been the
runner-up the last two years.
“It seems like I finish second on this track all the
time,” said Logano, who came up just short of a vic-
tory from the pole. “I’m going to keep running this
Xfinity Series race until I win it.”
Harvick has mastered the art of running strong
at the bottom of a track that is infamously rough on
tires. He won a race off pit road under caution with
27 laps to go, which proved to be crucial in holding
off Logano. On the restart, Logano’s bid to pass
from the outside was thwarted when Chase Elliott
gave Harvick a nudge.
Harvick led 101 laps in his Chevrolet, while Lo-
gano’s Ford was out front for 59 laps.

Harrington made six bird-
ies in the 12 holes he played
Saturday morning in the rain-
delayed tournament to com-
plete a 4-under 66 and take a
one-shot lead over Patrick
Reed, with Ian Poulter and
Brendan Steele another shot
behind.
The third round ended 51
minutes after it started be-
cause of a storm that packed
50 mph gusts and dumped
about 5 inches of rain on PGA
National. The storm was so se-
vere that it created an air bub-
ble on the 18th green the size
of a sea turtle, caused the sides
of bunkers to cave in and top-
pled an electronic scoreboard
off a platform and down to the
bottom of a lake.
“That’s as bad as I’ve ever
seen it rain,” Russell Knox of
Scotland said after a 68 left
him four shots behind.
Only 24 players completed
a hole before the storm ar-
rived, causing the third delay
of the week. The plan was to
return at 9 this morning to re-
sume the round, and continue
with the same pairings to play
as much as possible today. The
tournament now is to end on
Monday.
“We’ve got pretty much a
mess,” said Slugger White, the
tour’s vice president of compe-
tition.

ing 8.752 seconds. He was out front for a total of 85
laps in the 130-lap event.
Erik Jones led 37 laps but faded to seventh.
Crafton, who started 15th, picked up his sixth

Hamilton fastest at FI test
Lewis Hamilton put
Mercedes at the top of the timesheet for a second
straight day of Formula One testing Saturday. Felipe
Massa gave Williams the day’s second-fastest time.
While Mercedes fine-tuned its car with only one
day of testing to go, McLaren’s reliability problems
returned. An oil leak ended reserve driver Kevin
Magnussen’s day 11/2 hours early after he man-

SECOND ROUND
It helps that the next event
is a World Golf Championship
about a 90-minute drive down
the highway at Doral, and
there is no pro-am.
Harrington, the three-time
major champion from Ireland,
has fallen to No. 297 in the
world and couldn’t qualify for
Doral even if he were to win.
He won the Indonesian Open
on the Asian Tour at the end of
last year, ending a four-year
drought dating to another
Asian Tour event.
His last PGA Tour victory
was his second straight major,
the 2008 PGA Championship
at Oakland Hills. He said the
benefit of playing Indonesia
was a boost to his confidence,
on and off the golf course. At
such a small tournament, his
name resonates.
“They treat you like a star,
you play like a star,” he said.
“I’m back to being a three-
time major winner. I went for
that reason — to give my ego a
boost.”

Federer takes seventh Dubai Duty Free
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Defending
champion Roger Federer won his seventh Dubai
Duty Free title and second of the year in defeating
top-ranked Novak Djokovic 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday.
It marked the seventh consecutive year — and
11th time in 13 years — that Federer or Djokovic
won the title. The only other tournaments Federer
has won seven times are Wimbledon and Halle,
both on grass.
Federer needed five aces to become the fourth
player since 1991 to serve 9,000 career aces. He
served 12 in the final. He joined Goran Ivanisevic
(10,183), Ivo Karlovic (9,375) and Andy Roddick
(9,074) in cracking the 9,000 mark.

Replay rebuked before EPL controversy
HOLYWOOD, Northern Ireland — Soccer’s rule
makers ruled out the imminent use of video technol-
ogy Saturday hours before the wrong Sunderland
player appeared to be sent off at Manchester United.
Sunderland defender John O’Shea pulled back
Radamel Falcao in the penalty area, but Wes Brown,
who appeared to make no contact with the United
striker, was dismissed by referee Roger East.
The English Football Association backs the
wider implementation of technology — three years
after goal-line aids were approved for use — but
FIFA is blocking any moves to allow referees to de-
fer to a video replays throughout matches for now.
The red card could be transferred to O’Shea,
who would then serve the one-match ban. But a
