Just returned from an
Executive meeting of the
volunteer fire department
Nominations were made for the
upcoming elections to be held on
May 22, at the fire department
in downtown Castle Lake Plans
are on for a “get acquainted'’
picnic that will follow the
business session If you want to
help, give John Stofa a call
Other business included an
announcement by Gloria
Cummings that she. Brad, and
Don have recently completed
CPR training, which has
something to do with heart
attacks, so if you plan on having
one, see the Cummings for help
Mr McNabb also said he has
similar experience.
Shirley Bates proudly
reported that the. fire depart-
ment was quite sound finan-
cially after completing all, and
more, than the items budgeted
for What with the pump on the
new truck, the heater bought,
the building completed, and a
whole bunch of other things we
still have money to make
payments on the building for all

of nekt year. We should be
proud of the work done by all
the officers these last two years
and make a - point to let them
know we appreciate all Uheir
sacrifice. It’s real easy to
'complain 'till you have to do the
work yourself, you know, so
let's show up at the next
meeting and continue support
for the new officers.
Towards the end of the
meeting, Billy Bates showed us
some equipment loaned to us by
Civil Defense for detecting
radioactivity in case of attack
or ah accident involving
radioactive materials. That's
one committee I'm not volun-
teering for!
Among the other news, we
want to thank the Stofas for a
good breakfast get together last
Sunday. Got to see Louise
(looking good!), and the
Pumphreys, from Pipe Creek.
The Bates' had company—
Billy’s aunt and uncle, Mr and
Mrs Roy Bates, came in from
Hico, Texas. Cindy Bates,
Bandera Queen, traveled all the
way to Helotes to be in the
Cornyval Parade last Saturday.
Mr. Jones told us that Mrs.
Jones was flying up to Dallas to
be with her daughters for
Mother’s Day. Mr. Jones plans
to get equal later when they
both will vacation in Hawaii.
Just as long as they don’t have
any “brush fires’’ in them hula
skirts...
The Fire Department an-
swered another call to the
municipal trash dump on
Sunday Seems as though we
aren't the only ones using the
dump, so something will have to
be done
Snakes are in the news. Brad
Cummings shot a big bull snake
this last week and Jack Stofa
rescued Melissa from a rat-
tlesnake who tried to help her
feed the rabbits. Got ten rattles
and hat band out of it.
Editorial for the week con-
cerns driving on the road out
here. I know we re as guilty as
anyone at times, but seems as
though some folks think they’re
warming up for the Indianapolis
500. Speed limit signs of
maximum 40 should be posted
with warning signs of that bad
curve. Peo|jle, slow down a bit,
and everyone try to stay on
their side of the road, so we ll all
be around to read next week’s
article. Okay?

PUBLIC NOTICE
The Procurement Services
Office of the U.S. Postal Ser-
vice, P.O. Box 657, San Antonio.
Texas 78293, is accepting bids
on a two year "Cleaning Ser-
vices Contract", for the Post
Office at Medina, Texas A
"Request for Quotations" is
posted in the lobby of the Post
Office at Medina, Texas, and
may be consulted for the
complete information.
Quotations must be submitted
before close of business May 13,

A Letter to the Residents of
Medina
Though it is not possible to
include all the details of the
previous meetings and phases
o( preparation, this letter will
attempt to brief the citizens of
the progress of the Medina Civic
Club.
The club was organized
March 19, 1977, for the purpose
of coordinating the efforts to
improve our community. The
membership is composed of
representatives from chqrches
and organizations aria in-
terested individuals.
Medina was most fortunate to
be chosen as a project study by
the Landscape-Architecture
Class of graduate students at
A&M University. Under the
direction of Professor Harry
Gornham, the group evaluated
the Medina community, the
topography of the area, and the
highways and roads. They
made several scheduled
presentations, then presented
the recommendations for im-
provements, Monday, April 24,
1977.
Clean-up Flx-up Campaign
The first phase of the'
recommendations is to work
with what we already have and
make it look better by cleaning,
painting or fixing Everyone
having businesses and homes on
the main highway or near the
community streets and roads is
urged to give their property a
facelift.
This project to improve the
appearance of Medina is not to
encourage a great deal of
tourism or more new residents
to the community, but rather to
enhance the environment for
the Medina citizens Through
our efforts we may increase the
value of our properties and
increase the amount of trade for
the local businesses.
Plan to attend the next “town
meeting” to see what is being
done for community im-
provement and what more can
be done This next meeting of
the Medina Civic Club will be
conducted directly after the
Volunteer Fire Department
meeting at the Youth Center,
May 19, 1977. Plan to attend
both meetings, starting at 7:00
pm.
FIRE DEPT TO MEET ON
MAY 19
The Medina Volunteer Fire
Dept, meets every third
Thursday at 7 p m. in the Youth
Center. Check your annual
calendar and mark the Fire
Dept, meeting The Civic
meeting will follow the Fire
Dept, meeting
