Education and Its Value. Mr.
Mercer gav’e his definition of an
education and some of the
cardinal principles that go to
make up an education.
Mr. Mercer passed out pam-
phlets put out by the Board of
Regents of the State Teachers’
Colleges to each student. The
pamphlets were entitled, "Why
Complete Your Education?”
Seven reasons were given as to
why a student should complete
his education. They were: Edu-
cation gives a greater earning
power, is of great persona] satis-
faction, develops leadership
ability, causes one’ to use his
time wisely, Reaches' one to mix
with other people, makes a more
creative life and makes one of
more value to his nation as an
educated citizenry.
The speaker’s chncluding
statement was: “The schools of
this community are maintained
for the one purpose of offering
you students the maximum op-
portunity life will determine the
benefits you derive from the ex-
penditure of your parents and
the efforts of your teachers.”
