On Pea Festival
Royal Family
Three popular Teague young
iwiies and their escorts have been
named by the Chamber of Com-
merce to represent Teague as
Princess and Duchess and their
royal escorts at the Third Annual
Hlackeyed Pea Festival to be held
at Centerville on Friday, July 14.
Miss Jerrie Smith, daughter oT
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Smith, has
been chosen Princess; and Miss
Marian Dunn, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Dunn, and Miss Jean
York, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
C E. York, will be Duchesses to
the Court of Queen Guindal of the
House of Sherman. Their royal
escorts will be: For Miss Smith,
Edgar M. Bowers, Jr.; for Miss
Dunn, Earle McSpadden, Jr., and
for Miss York, Franklin Baggett.
Several decorated cars are ex-
pected to go'' from Teague. Sec-
retary and Mrs. Wm. J. Stringer
cf the Chamber of Commerce will
have two cars bearing the Teague
contingent of the royal family.
The festivities will include the
parade at 10:00 a.m.; the corona-
tion at 8:30 p.m. and the compli-
mentary dance, at which the roy-
alty will be honor guests following
thi coronation.

Mrs. W. M. Upshaw visited in
Dallas last week-end. Mrs. N. W.
Baiton of that city returned home
with her for a visit.

a miscellaneous shower on July 1

The guests, arriving at 2:30,
were greeted by Mrs. Edgar
Nanny, Mrs. R. S. Gilliam and
Mrs. Bonner Miller and asked to
register ■ in the bride's book, pre-
sided over by Miss Zelda Walker.
The bride was asked to sign for
special delivery and " presented
with gifts by little Misses Bobbie
Gilliam and Vida Nell Miller.
The receptions rooms were dec-
orated throughout with beautiful
cut flowers. A large bouquet,
placed on a reflector, centered the
lace laid dining table.

Gilliam assisted the hostess in
serving punch and cake to 65
callers.

The Hopewell Memorial Ser-
vices will be held at the Hope-
well cemetery July 21, 1939, in-
stead of the third Thursday of July
as the usual custom.
Everyone is invited" to come and
bring contributions' and a well,
filled basket.
The change is due to a conflict
to other memorials.

Mrs. Ella Knight is ill. We are
hoping she will soon be up again.

Baptist meeting starts Saturday
night. All of you come and at-
tend this week. We certainly will
have lots of tomatoes, fried ham,
and fried chicken.

The Tri-State detective agency
has established a dvision office in
Teague under the direction of
Sartor, local merchant, who has
had experience in finger print and
detective work.
This agency was organized by
Roy D. Bassette, Jr., a Lad of 16.
who with his friends played cops
and robbers for several years, be-
came serious about it and decided
to organize an agency of their
Own.
Members are promoted on exam-
ination. Only those passing a sat-
isfactory grade are promoted to
the next rank. Boys and girls in-
terested in this kind of work are
requested to see Mr. Sartor, who
has a charter for the branch of-
fice. This agency will work in co-
operation with , state, county and
