the transaction will lower the
debt service payment and save
the county $945,000 annually

That’s $45,000 more in savings
annually than originally esti-
mated for the bond refunding at
a March 22 meeting.
In total, the county expects to
see a savings of more than $16
million over the next two de-
cades as a result of the bond re-
funding. County commissioners

DCTA pilot program
begins for Ryan students
Denton ISD students who
live near Ryan High School got a
lift from the Denton County
Transit Authority on Monday.
The district partnered with
the city and DCTA to launch a
pilot program that allows stu-
dents living along East McKin-
ney Street and within two miles
of Ryan High the opportunity to
ride the Route 3 bus to school.
The push came after multi-
ple concerns from community
members about pedestrian safe-
ty during the planned road ex-
pansion. Because of state restric-
tions, the district can only pro-
vide transportation to children
who live more than two miles
away from a school.
“As always, our primary con-
cern is to ensure the safety of our
students and we feel this pro-
gram will allow us to do that by
taking students off streets where
there is heavy construction and
limited or no access to side-
Proceeds from the event go
back into the community in the
form of grants to more than 20
nonprofit agencies in the greater
Denton County area, according
to Rich Muller, Rotary Club
president.
