:: Dear Santa Claus ::
SPiR.IT OF CHRISTMAS?^
OUR FOREFATHERS
celebrated Christmas sometimes under the
greatest of difficulties, to say nothing of
danger.' Today, in warm, lighted homes we
welcome the arrival ol Yuletide, without
thought of those early hardships. It might
make our Christmas a little happier, our
hearts a little more thankful, to take thought
of tV.-cbe things.

III Health Fatal to
Mr8. A. E.ljowry,
Final Rites Here
A lingering illness of several
years with hospitalisation during
the past four weeks in the local
sanitarium terminated in the death
on December 16, at 1:15 o’clock
in the afternoon of Mrs, Amanda
Elisabeth Lowry, widow of J. M.
Lowry.
Deeply bereaved by the death of
her son. Jim Lowry, and feeble
physically, Mrs. Lowry had made
her home with her daughter, Mrs.
R. L, Simmons and her niece, Mrs.
Earl Wright, her foster daughter,
and was tenderly cared for in her
last days. Her sweetness of dis-
position and her useful life while
in health won for Mrs. Lowry the
love and solicitous attentions of
many friends in her invalidism.
Amanda Elisabeth Cosby was
bom May 6, 1872, to James S. and
Mrs. Mary^Head Cosby* When
only ten years of age she was con-
verted and united with the Meth-
odist church. She belonged to the
congregation of Stephenville First
Methodist church at the time of
her passing. She was married ^to
J. M. Lowry near Altman, Texas,
December 23, 1888. Two daughters
H. M. Everett, Jr.
and » son were bora to them, of
whom only one daughter lives. She
is Mrs. Georgia Simmons. Mr. and
Mrs. Lowry also provided a home
for a niece and nephew, who were
reared as their own children. The
niece is Mrs. Alfreda Cosby
Wright, and A. D. Cosby. Mr.
Lowry preceded his wife in death
November 23, 1987. She is survived
by five grandchildren, with two
grandsons in the service, one with
the army of ‘ occupation in Ger-
many, and the other in Las Vegas,
Nevada. She leaves five great-
grandchildren. Other survivors are
two brothers, C. C. Cosby of Cali-
fornia, and Bobby Cosby of Terrell,
Texas, and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral ceremonies were held
for Mrs. Lowry on Sunday after-
noon in the Trewitt Chapel with
Rev. Elmer C. Carter, pastor of
the Methodist church, o-fficiating.
The Methodist choir sang her fa-
vorite religious songs, “Rock of
Ages’’ and "In the Garden.’’
Interment, directed by the Tre-
witt Funeral Home undertakers,
was made in West End cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Elmo
White, W. C, Croft, Ed Winbum,
George Shiels, W. A. Nix and Fred
McCleskey.

The Quest Of Happiness
has ever been the ultimate goal of hu-
man beings. Some find happiness in
one way; some in another; and many
never find it at all. Whatever road you
may have been taking in your pursuit
of happiness, may your fondest hopes
be realized during this Christmas
season of 1945.
One other thought: we want every-
one of you .to know that we deeply ap-
