Golf Course To
Be Ready Sunday
The fairways of the Levelland
Country Club course will be in
shape for play Sunday, Jimmie
Gamewtai.'pro, told the Sun-New*
Thursday morning.
The Witways have been seeded
and only three holes may be used
until Sunday, but with the addi-
tional rain the seed should be
germinated by that time, Game-
well believes.
The professional golfer has play-
ed with leading professionals in
tournament all over the country
and Was formerly a professional at
Hobbs', Cloi’is and Odessa Country
clubs ilTfhis section of the coun-
try.
GarheWell said that there would
be no invitation tournaments at
the club this year, but they were
making plans for 1950.
There will be a club tourney to
be sfagad in September, the
date of Which will be announced
later.
Qualifiers will make the rounds
over tM 1 course for the various
flights about ^wo weeks prior tc
the tournament, probably in Au-
gust, said.
Off the Record
By G. M. Comstock
Today we pay tribute and hon-
or to our mothers. They who
brought us through suffering into
this world, watched over u» dur-
ing our tender years and today still
pray that we may be the men and
women that God intended us to
be.
As we pay tribute to her today,
we honor her in two diferent ways;
those of us who are fortunate
enough to still have our mothers
living can honor her as a person-
ality, to those whose mothers have
finished their work on this earth
they can honor a beautiful mem-
ory.
But whether they be living or
dead, we should remember that
they have given us the torch to
carry, which torch brings more
happiness to the world, and that
we, rather than they should be
dedicated, for their work is com-
pleted while ours is only begun
wherein we can fulfill her most
cherished wishes and desires.
It is too soon to forget all the
sorrows that our mothers carried
in their hearts during our last
world conflict. The hell that the
men and women went through on
THE SUN-NEWS, levelland Ti
the battlefields of the world were
multiplied a million times deep
down in her loving heart—they
suffered, she suffered more. ,
Ii\ paying honor to our mothers
today it seems that we should
dedicate our lives so as to enlight<
en the world that the cruelty of
war should not occur again—a
cruelty that adds another burden
to her already tired shoulders; that
through the diplomacy of love—
such as mothers have—will so af-
fect the lives of men that the im-
plements of war need never be
used again.
With this thought uppermost in
our minds let us, therefore, honor
and pay tribute today—a tribute
they deserve for all the sacrifices
they have made for us.
To wc who wear a red rose to-
day for the mother still living, let
us write her telling that we i
and will try to uphold such love
as she has given to the world.
To you who wear the white
rose, we hope that Its parity will
remind you Of the silent victor's
smile in her heavenly home, still
bringing you their message of
eternal love.
