The athletic teams from Rocksprings
broke even in their games the past
week. Highlighting the activities since
our last issue were the games with
the Sonora boys and girls. The Rock-
springs girls were very much on their
game and defeated the Sonora volley-
ball team rather decisively, 33-19, but
the boys were a bit off their game in
losing by a low score of 12-9. Both
these games were exciting all the way
and marked by hard, clean playing on
both sides. Officials from Kerrville,
Coach Weir of Schreiner and Mr. All-
corn of Tivy High School worked the
basketball game and did an excellent
job.
On Tuesday of this week the Lon-
don boys and girls paid us a visit,
breaking even also. The London girls,
presenting a very fine team, defeated
our girls 35-16. The Rocksprings
girls seemed to be playing below par,

our girls to lose to them. The boys
game was a bit one-sided, resulting in
a score of 31-13 in favor of the An-
goras, with Coach Short using his
entire squad to try to keep the score
down.
Rocksprings High School boys and
girls will be away this week-end, the
boys participating in the Ozona In-
vitational Basketball Friday and Sat-
urday, playing Rankin in their first
game late Friday afternoon. The girls
will attend the Eldorado volleyball
tournament Saturday, playing Eola,
Eden, Sonora and Eldorado, in that
order, during the day.

VETERANS NEWS
The Veterans Administration has
ruled officially that President Tru-
man's recent proclamation ending hos-
] tilities has no effect on most laws ad-
| ministered by VA.
Official termination of the war rather
than the end of hostilities establishes
the deadline for benefits under both
the Cil Bill (Public 346) and rehabili-
tation of disabled veterans (Public 16).
VA said.
After the official cud of the war,
VA may guarantee loans up to ten'
years from that date, start veterans in
I education or training up to four years,!
and pay readjustment allowances up to
two years.
Disabled veterans training under
Public Law 16 face no specific dead-
line but they must complete their
training within nine years after the
end of the war.
Nonservice—connected death and dis-
ability rights will be accorded only
to those who served between Decem-
ber 7, 1941 and the date of the Pre-
sident’s Proclamation. December 31,
1946. VA said.
The VA ruling specified that war-
time rates of compensation will con-
tinue to apply to service-connected
disability and death cases for members
of the armed forces until official ter-
mination of the war.
