-By Twila Lyles-
1 said last week I wouldn’t have
an article but I had my times mixed
up. It will be the next week that I
won’t. As you read this, I will be
cooling off in Estes Park, Colo. As
1 sit here sweating, it’s hard to be-
lieve that somewhere in this world
there are temperatures in the 30’s
and 40’s but that’s what they tell
me and I’m anxious to find out.
My appreciation goes out to
Fairfield’s Rotary Club as they voted
to help the program out by having
the a/c fixed on the Medical Van.
This vehicle has really been a char-
ily case for the entire county lately.
As you’ll remember, the county paid
for a rebuilt motor and new water
pump, this program put on four
new tires and now the Rotary Club
is having the a/c fixed. I hope we
can keep it going until next year, at
which time we are to get a new
one.
August was a big month as far
as meals. Even with Reunion Center
being closed for a week during the
fair, we served over 4,000 meals
throughout the county. Now folks,
that’s a lot of meals, and good
meals, too. We had complaints
about one meal served last month
and it was a new item we tried. We
know not to try it again but that’s
not a bad average considering the
number of days we did serve. Butler
was opened 5 days in August; Re-
union Center opened 18 days;
Teague Center was opened 23 days
and Wortham opened 9 days. There
will be less days opened in Septem-
ber due to Labor Day holiday and
the one day Reunion Center was
closed due to the Coon Hunters.
This is an annual event just like the
fair.
Make your plans to attend the
center of your choice and support
this program, not only with your at-
tendance but your contribution for
the meal. Remember, if you have
the money, any size contribution
will be accepted and appreciated
but if you don’t and are over 60,
you are still appreciated and wel-
comed. If you are under 60 and
visit the center, you must pay full
cost of the meal which is $3.50.
There are no exceptions to this
except for babies and toddlers.
HINT FOR THE DAY: If you
have a talent, share it! If you don’t
use it, you’ll lose it! If you’re
down and out, get out and come
down! We’d love to have you!!

How to get the most
out of your washer and dryer
1. Wash
clothing to
manufac-
turer's in-
structions, but
save hot water
whenever
possible.
2. Select
proper water
setting for size of laundry
load.
3. For best efficiency, wash
and dry full loads whenever
possible, but do not
overload.
4. Use long wash cycle only
when you have a full load of
laundry.
5. If dryer has automatic
sensing controls, use them
instead of
5pl timed
settings.
| 6. Remove
clothing as
soon as dryer
stops to avoid
wrinkling.
7. Clean
dryer’s lint
trap before each load.
8. Do not overload dryer. It
takes as much electricity to
dry a small load as a large
one.
9. Do not place items that
should be drycleaned,
foam or sponge rubber or oily
cleaning cloths in your dryer.
10. Vent dryer to outside your
home.
