Group seeks funds to
compete in contest

Lake Dallas High School
Choir students qualify
for state competition
Thirteem Lake Dallas High
School choir students will go on
to compete at the University In-
terscholastic League State Solo
and Ensemble contest in May.
To qualify, the students had to
score a Division 1 rating at the
Region 2 contest at Northwest
High School earlier this month.
The following students
cinched a spot in the state com-
petition:

The Denton High School
Theatre Troupe recently set up a
GoFundMe page to raise money
for the International Thespian
Festival in June at the University
of Nebraska.
Eleven juniors and seniors
qualified for the contest by re-
ceiving superior ratings at the
state level, making this the first
time in more than 10 years that a
DHS student has qualified. Be-
cause the international competi-
tion isn’t a UIL-sponsored
event, the group is not eligible
for state funding and set a
$15,000 fundraising goal.
The money from the fun-
draiser will go toward travel ex-
penses to get to Nebraska. Once
they get to the contest, the stu-
dents will be able to audition for

The National Merit Scholar-
sip Program named two area se-
niors as finalists for scholarship
funds.
Band students from Coram
Deo Academy led private
schools across the state in the
number of qualifiers for the Tex-
as Private School Music Educa-
tors Association’s all-state band.
The school had 18 students
participate in the three-day clin-
ic and concert at the Eisemann
Center in Richardson. There are
39 students in the school’s sym-
phonic band.

dent Noah Parker were among
15,000 students nationwide
who advanced to the finalist
round after scoring well on the
Preliminary SAT last year.
Roughly L6 million students
take the test in their junior year
of high school.
Around 7,500 students will
be chosen as winners and be eli-
gible for $33 million in scholar-
ships.
Musical performances
slated for weekend
Familes in Aubrey ISD are
invited to attend the “Spotlight
on AHS” event in celebration of
Texas Public Schools Week
The event will begin at 6:30
p.m. Monday, March 6, in the
Aubrey High School gym and
cafeteria. Parents and students
can walk through displays fea-
turing student works, extracur-
ricular activities and school
clubs.
Theater students at Liberty
Christian School will take the
stage this weekend to perform
their spring musical, Big Fish.
Evening shows will begin at 7
p.m. Feb. 23 through 25, and af-
ternoon shows will start at 2
p.m. Feb. 25 and 26. All shows
will be in the school’s auditori-
um, 1301S. U.S. Highway 377 in
Argyle.
The show follows the rela-
tionship between a son and his
father, who often exaggerates
the stories he shares about his
life. It is based on a 1998 novel by
Daniel Wallace that was turned

average last fall.
