Police look for details in vandalism of Carter sculpture
and turned the gun on himself.
He told the woman that he’s
wanted to kill himself multiple
times since she left him, the doc-
ument said.
He blocked the door as the
woman tried to leave but even-
tually let her go, according to po-
lice. No one was injured.

Lane — A 60-year-old woman
was found sleeping in a parking
space early Wednesday morning
before she was arrested on a
charge of possession of marijua-
na, according to police.
She was also charged with
public intoxication and taken to
Denton City Jail.
1100 block of Cordell
Street — A man was seen leav-
ing the Denton Unitarian Uni-
versalist Fellowship Church
with a flat-screen TV on
Wednesday morning, according
to a police report.
Police responded to the
church about 9:50 a.m. but
couldn’t locate the suspect. Po-
lice determined that he forced
entry to the church and took
multiple electronic items, the re-

according to a Denton police ar-
rest affidavit.
The 28-year-old suspect, An-
drew Charles Williams, was ar-
rested Wednesday and taken to
Denton City Jail on a charge of

ing and cursing at the woman
about their breakup, the docu-

Enrollment numbers
for UNT, TWU released
Enrollment at the University
of North Texas and Texas Wom-
an’s University was essentially
flat this year, with UNT ticking
upward and TWU dipping
slightly.
UNT has 38,121 students en-
rolled this fall, just 148 students
more than last year’s enrollment
of 37,973.
TWUs Denton campus held
at 12,835 students, or 82 stu-
dents below last year’s total en-
rollment of 12,917.
Between the three campus-
es in Denton, Dallas and Hous-
ton, TWU now has 15,472 stu-
dents in classes. This figure is
down from last year’s total of
15,665.
TWU officials still are trying
to assess the effect, if any, of
Hurricane Harvey on enroll-
ment, according to university
spokeswoman Amanda Simp-
son.
Barthold Road is closed for street
construction at the Interstate 35 service
road.
Bernard Street has utility improve-
ment work at Maple and Welch streets.
South Bonnie Brae has shoulder
widening work north of Vintage Bou-
levard.
Geesling Road has sewer line replace-

North Texas Giving Day drive
Thursday.
The life-sized stained-glass
sculpture created by Denton art-
ist Christie Wood to honor Den-
ton blues legend Tom “Pops”
Carter was destroyed by vandal-
ism earlier this week. The vandal
or vandals also broke nearby pe-
destrian lights in Quakertown
Park.
