Interfaith vigil set for
Thursday on the Square
Community members are in-
vited to attend an interfaith vigil
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the
downtown Denton Square.
Indivisible Denton, a local
activist group, has partnered
with the Denton Islamic Society
to host the vigil on the same day
President Donald Trump’s re-
vised executive order on immi-
gration goes into effect.
The new order puts a 90-
day hold on issuing visas to
travelers from six countries:
Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan,
Syria and Yemen. It also sus-
pends the refugee program for
120 days.
Proponents of the order say it
will make the country safer
while officials evaluate current
immigration processes. Critics
say the order targets those of
Muslim faith.
Organizers of the Denton
vigil said the reason for the gath-
ering is “to show our interfaith
strength, solidarity and support
for our brothers and sisters from
around the world,” according to
the description on the event’s
Facebook page.
