Was it nepotism?
Dalton Gregory
says “no.” He says he
didn’t do anything to
help his daughter get
the job. And, since
she’s been hired, both
he and the nonprofit
have filed conflict-of-interest state-
ments disclosing the relationship.
Gregory says he won’t participate in any
future council discussions or votes that
concern Stoke.
“It wouldn’t be proper,” he said.

The Denton County elections office
is prepping for significant procedure
and staffing changes ahead of a pending
formal review by the Texas Secretary of
State Elections Division.
In a letter presented to county com-
missioners Tuesday, county Elections
Administrator Frank Phillips updated
the court on his efforts to determine
what went wrong in the general elec-
tion in November. He’s been conduct-
ing his own review while corresponding
with Keith Ingram, director of the Elec-
tions Division of the Texas secretary of
state’s office.
“The secretary of state is indepen-
dent of us,” Phillips said. “They’re going
to give their opinion, and it’s an inde-
pendent one from outside the county.”
Elections staff made multiple errors
in the general election last November
and during early voting that began in
October. Posted signs displayed inac-

A forum designed to address
concerns of students attending
the University of North Texas as
unauthorized immigrants had
two purposes Tuesday.
As planned, students asked
questions and panelists spoke
about resources for students who
are in the U.S. illegally, but the
event also discussed President
Donald Trump’s travel ban that
could impact almost 100 stu-
dents.
