“Stoney Cemetery is still
around, too, although it, too,
could use some help. Last
time I visited, there was a
number at the gate into the
area, and the gentleman who
answered the phone was
very nice and encouraged
me to enjoy my visit.
It goes without saying that
I'd love to see the cabin and

Tanker rescues five
from capsized boat
“I went to the Stoney
Cemetery two weeks ago
but a gate on the road was
locked and could not get
there. My great-grandpar-
ents are buried there and it
is in need of a lot of work. I
wish the county could help
more, a lot of the graves are
unmarked and in need of
repair.
Five people have been rescued
from the Gulf of Mexico about 12
miles off the coast of Galveston af-
ter their boat capsized.
The Coast Guard says a tank-
er crew alerted them and sent
out its own rescue boat to collect
the stranded boaters. A Coast
Guard vessel arrived to retrieve
the people and bring them
ashore later Saturday.
No injuries have been report-

A Union Pacific Railroad contractor uses an excavating claw machine Friday to pick up an
old railroad tie and place it into a railcar near the intersection of South Bell Avenue and
Sycamore Street. The ties have been piled up for nearly a year. UPRR contractors loaded
and removed 18 railcars of ties last week and they hope to have all of the ties removed
from the city soon.
