St. MlchMl’s Parochial School
will ap*n its doors for the
fourth ' year to 110 pupils in
seven grades. For the third
consecutive year the faculty
will consist of four Extension
Volunteers. Returning for a
third year to St. Michael’s Sc-
hool in Miss Arlene Brooks,
principal and teacher in the un-
graded primary of the school,
lflss Brooks is a graduate of the
University of Detroit. She ex-
pects to complete work on her
Master's Degree this fall. Tea-
ching grade seven will be Miss
Nancy Arcari of Glbbstown, New
Jersey She is a graduate of
Immaculate College in Pennsy-
lvania. Miss Miry Sue Sch-
wleters will teach grades five
and six. She graduated from
Marycrest College in her home-
town of Davenport, Iowa, in 1964
and spent last year teaching in
Camden, Arkansas, as an Ex-
tension Volunteer. Teaching
grade four and the upper sec-
tion of the primary will be Miss
Jill Chapman of Wilmette, Illi-
nois. Miss Chapman is a gra-
duate of Edgewood College,
Madison, Wisconsin.
These young ladies volunteer
to teach in parochial schools
that are unable to secure teach-
in; Sisters and cannot afford to
pay regular salaries to lay tea-
chers. They volunteer and are
placed through the Catholic
Church Extension Society, Chi-
cago, Illinois. This year more
than four hundred men and wo-
men volunteers gathered for a
one week orientation at Bar at
College, north of Chicago, be-
fore being sent to their assign-
ments around the country. They
..y teach for a minimum of one
■/ year at a salary of $50,00
' per month.
St. Michael’s School, which is
supported entirely by the people
of St. Michael’s Parish here
in Levelland and the immediate
area, opened with four grades
three years ago, planning to add
a grade a year until a full
eight grade school is in opera-
tion. It is hoped that this goal
will be reached in the 1966-67
school year.
Theater Center
Starts Drive
Extending its “community’’
coverage to include not only
Lubbock but the South Plains
community, Lubbock Theatre
Centre announces its annual
membership drive, which will
be in effect from Monday, Aug.
30, to Friday, Sept 10.
The purpose of the 1965-66
drive is to assure the contin-
ued existence of a vital form
of art for Lubbock and South
Plains community and to aid to
the expansion of the present
theater facilities, housed at
2508 Avenue P, Lubbock.
With the slogan this year of
"Bye Bye Birdie, Hello LTC,”
the division chairmen, captains
and workers are headed by co-
chairmen, Mrs. J.R. Harris,
Jr., and Mrs. Robert Moore.
The memberships, which pro-
vide a substantial saving of tg>
to 40 per cent over box office
prices, are as follows: Patron
13 tickets, with listing in pro*
gram, $25; Couple, 12 tickets
for $18; Annual, 6 tickets for
$10; Student 6 tickets for $5.
Members have the privilege of
reserving seats ahead of the
general sale and are also of-
fered reduced rates for the
workshop. The Lubbock Theatre
Centre is a non-profit organi-
zation and a community ser-
vice.

Sept 16, Followed by “Shot
in the Dark”, Oct. 28, “Look
Homeward Angel”, Dec. 9,
"Teahouse of the August Moon”
Feb. 3, “The Crucible,” March
17, and a late Broadway come-
dy to be announced April 28.
