SAN ANTONIO - Faced with the
possibility of having a second straight
season end with a Game 7 loss, the San
Antonio Spurs played with emotion
and let Tony Parker have some fun.
Parker scored 32 points and the San
Antonio led by as many as 31 on its way
to a 119-96 victory over the Dallas Mav-
ericks, closing out a stressful first-round
series Sunday in seven games.

their feet to celebrate baskets. But no
one had as much fun or hit the floor
more than Parker.
The All-Star point guard was 11 for 19
from the field and 10 for 13 on free
throws as Dallas was unable to keep
him from attacking the lane, despite a
series of hard fouls.

hit.
The last of those hits was the sweet-
est of all.
Foster came to the plate in the bot-
tom of the seventh inning with the
Mean Green trailing 18th-ranked Tulsa
by a run with the bases loaded.
Foster hammered the first pitch she
saw over the left-field fence for a grand
slam, giving UNT an 11-8 win.
Foster jumped in the air as she
watched the ball sail away. UNT coach
Tracey Kee immediately dashed toward
home plate, where the Mean Green
gathered to slap Foster on the back, the
helmet and anywhere else they could
reach in the middle of the scrum.
“It didn’t hit me until I hit home
plate that I had won the game,” Foster
said. “I had not swung at the first pitch,
which is something I usually do, in
three games. I did it then. It was crazy. It
felt really good.”
The hit capped not only a dramatic
win but also a milestone weekend for
UNT, which won twice in a three-game
Conference USA series against the
Golden Hurricane and set a record for
wins in a season with 30. Tulsa (47-7,
19-4) came into the weekend having al-
ready wrapped up the C-USA title and

When Argyle senior Reese Thomp-
son settled into the starting blocks at
the Class 3A Region II track and field
meet, he wasn’t concerned about not
reaching the state meet his senior year.
“To be honest, I was thinking, ‘Get
me out of here,’ because my ankle was
just throbbing,” Thompson said.
Thompson took a spill in the 800-
meter relay, and his left ankle was
swollen by the time he was ready to
run in the 110 hurdles. After a few mo-
ments in the blocks, the pain and
thoughts of missing state disappeared.

Thompson is making his second
appearance at the state meet. As a
sophomore, Thompson finished third
in the 3A pole vault finals. Next year,
Thompson will attend Texas and par-
ticipate in the decathlon for the Long-

he’s displayed for Argyle head coach
Steve Chancelor.
Were it not for the ankle injury,
Thompson would have had a chance at
