Some retirees fault concussion deal
WEST DIVISION
In a wide-ranging blog on
his website Monday, Woods
said he is still sore from the in-
cision and his only contact
with golf clubs is a few putts
and chips that do not require
him to rotate his back. He said
tests showed no arthritic
changes, which he attributed
to being in good shape and
strong in his legs and abdo-
men.

Seven former players asked Monday to inter-
vene in the court case in Philadelphia.
They say the plan doesn’t offer anything to men
who can still work, but suffer from headaches, per-
sonality changes and other side effects.
The group includes 2008 Pro Bowl player Sean
Morey, now a sprint football coach at Princeton
University.
The proposed $765 million agreement would
give millions to men with Parkinson’s Disease and
other serious neurological problems.
Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody fears the
settlement is too small, but lawyers for both the
NFL and the lead players’ group hope to convince
her otherwise.

Carter-Williams named top rookie
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia 76ers guard
Michael Carter-Williams has won the NBA’s Rook-
ie of the Year Award.
Carter-Williams was only the third player since
1950-51 to lead all rookies in scoring (16.7), re-
bounding (6.3) and assists (6.2), joining Oscar
Robertson (1960-61) and Alvan Adams (1975-76).
The league said Monday that he received 104 of
a possible 124 first-place votes. Orlando’s Victor
Oladipo finished second and Utah’s Trey Burke
was third.
Allen Iverson is the only other player in Sixers
history to win the award. The 11th overall pick in last
year’s draft, Carter-Williams is the first player
picked 10th or lower to win since Mark Jackson did
it in 1987 for New York. Philadelphia finished 19-

“As I’ve said several times, I
hope to be back sometime this
summer, but I just don’t know
when,” Woods said.
The one nonmajor that is
important to him is the Quick-

sor stepping in at a tourna-

“Whether I’m able to play

That tournament is two
weeks after the U.S. Open and
three weeks before the British
Open, with the PGA Champi-

busy lineup of big-time golf.
“You can understand why I
want to hurry up and get bet-

Woods, who last played
March 9 at Doral, said all he
could do was to follow a
strength program, listen to the
doctors, chart his progress
and wait.
“I haven’t used a sand

The Beavers’ results under Robinson were un-

Pac-12 in his six seasons.
Robinson went 94-105 with Oregon State after
spending two seasons as Brown’s head coach.

Fleury stopped 35 shots to back up his 22-save ef-
