Mrs. Lee Allen was hostess when
the Jolly Time Club met Wednes-
day. High score in “42” was won
by Mrs. Virgil Handy, with Mrs.
Pres Hudson winning low. Guests
were Mesdames J. W. Kent and Roy
McChristian.
Members present were Mesdames
.M. E. Buck, N. L. King, C. A.
Tanner, Handy, C. C. Farabee, H.
D. McCain, Hudson, Will Ellis,
Johnie Durham, Allen, and T. E.
Faver. The club will meet next
Wednesday with Mrs. Durham as
hostess.

Elmer Cole to Sheppard Field

LEAVES FOR TENNESSEE
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Campbell
visited Sunday in Denton with
their daughter, Peggy, who is en-
rolled in a speech short course at
TSCW. They also accompanied an-
other daughter, Doris, to Dallas,
where she left for McKenzie, Tenn.,
to attend the Young People’s Gen-
eral Assembly meeting this week
at Bethel College. As a member of
a young people’s caravan, Miss
Campbell will also tour various
churches for about six weeks.
NEW EMPLOYEE
Mrs. Guy Baggett began duties
Monday as a new employee at Ho-
rany’s. She will replace Mrs. Ever-
ett Frazier, the former Jerry Wes-
ter.

Firecracker Sale
Ruling Changed
New instructions have been re-
ceived by Earnest Tucker, county
clerk, on sale of firecrackers as
announced by C. E. Nigham, chief
of the explosives control division.
Sale is now allowed on firecrack-
ers of certain sizes and signaling
devices such as used customarily
by railroads, carriers, airplanes or
motor vehicles without a permit.
Previously, the Federal Explosive
Act made it impossible to buy any
kind of explosive during war or an
j emergency without a permit.

HERE TUESDAY
Baylor B. Brown, candidate for
the Court of Civil Appeals, was
in Olney Tuesday meeting voters
and making contacts with the pro-
fessional men of the city. He was
accompanied by his wife who is
assisting with his campaign.
Mr. and Mrs. Giles Boone ac-
companied the former’s sister,
Nancy, to Jacksboro, Sunday. There
she took a bus to Denton, where
she is a student at NTSTC.
Miss Oehler Gives
4-H Demonstration
Miss Laura Oehler, assistant
home demonstration agent, dis-
cussed constructoin of dressing ta-
bles at a meeting of the Markley
4-H Club Thursday, June 4.
Clubs throughout the county are
giving demonstrations on their
work to parents and local home
demonstration clubs. The Markley
group will present the following
program at 2 o’clock next Thurs-
day at the Markley school build-
ing: Jeanette Sparks, “Colors for
My Bedroom;” Melba Joyce Shook,
“What It Means to Be a Co-Op-
erator;” Bobbye Wilton, ‘“Furniture
and Picture Arrangement in A
Bedroom;” Helen Ruth Kirkland,
“Washing and Storing Vegetables;
Iona Lee Fain, Frances Lee Jordan
and Ruby Rater, “Our Favorite
Salads.”
The next club meeting will in-
clude a tour of bedroom and gar-
den demonstrations.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Campbell vis-
ited their daughter, Betty Jo, £
student at TSCW, on Sunday.
Otto Mercer of Wichita Falls
visited here Friday with Mr. and

day for Brownsville, where she is
employed as secretary to a defense
project official. Miss Martens re-
ceived her degree last week from

J. H. Blair of Newcastle and Mrs.
Donie Witehurst were married at
2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. H.
Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers, justice of
the peace, read the ceremony.
The couple was unattended.

Civilian defense films for inform-
ing those engaged in civilian de-
fense work in Wichita Falls and
surrounding counties will be pre-
sented at 8:30 p. m., June 19, on
the Memorial Auditorium lawn in
Wichita Falls. Included in the
two-hour length film is an official
picture of the bombing of the Mar-
chall Islands.

Valley View were week-end guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Fowler.
E. W. Culbertson of Fort Worth,
former Olneyite, was a Sunday
visitor here.
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Cooper vis-
ited their son, Pvt. W. A. Cooper,
at Fort Sill, Okla., Sunday. They
were accompanied by Mrs. Elmor
Eaton of Henrietta and their daugh-
ter,-Mrs. John Ruhmann of Dallas,
who is visiting here until she joins
he rhusband now stationed at Bre-
marton, Wash.
M. and Mrs. Doyle Evans and
daughter, Malta Lee visited rela->
tives in Fort Worth during the
week-end.
F. M. Hughes, who is employed
in government radio work at San
Antonio spent the week-end with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L.
Hughes. He was accompanied back

spent the past week with his par-

Bend left Friday for Amarillo,
where they are employed in a de-
fense plant.

DeLeon were business visitors
here Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Cantrell Hays and
daughters of Slidell, arrived here
Thursday to visit her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. R. E. Myers.

Dallas came Saturday for a visit

Miss Myrtice Patty of Westovor,
Olney school teacher, visited dur-
ing the week-end with Miss Grace
Rodgers. Sunday, she accompanied
her sister, Miss Andia Ola Patty,
who had been in the hospital, to
Westover.
Mrs. Lowell Hilton and Mrs. La-
veil Meaders visited the latter’s
husband, Pvt. Meaders, at Sheo-
pard Field Sunday.
Miss Rebecta Wilson, local
school teacher from McKinney, will
return home Friday following a
visit with friends here.
