Cattle Weaker,
Hogs Hold ,
Receipts Heavy
The Olney Livestock Auction
had another heavy run of cattle
and hogs this week—a total of
336 animals. Two hundred and
ninety-seven head of cattle came
to the Olney sales ring, though
a few head of choice heavy calves
were passed out of the ring at
$20 per 100 pounds.
Generally cattle bids here fol-
lowed the weakening trend on
beef shown last week on the na-
tion’s markets; hogs held firm and
drew quotations, on all types, from
$18 to $23 per 100 pounds. Comr
pared with other Texas markets,
the Olney prices continued to
“more than hold their own.”
Good fat calves were bought at
$15.50 to $19. Common and me-
diul calves were sold for $10 to
$14.50 per 100; culls $9 to $10;
medium to good cows .$11 to
$13.10; cutter and common cows
$9.50 to $11; most canners, $7.50
to $9.50; canner bulls, $10.50;
stocker calves $12.50 to $16.10.

We now have all kinds of new

springs. Will also renovate your

Of Glory, Too, at
Fat Stock Show
Fort Worth—The unsung heroes
of the livestock show are going
to be recognized at the South-
western Exposition and Fat Stock
Show in Fort Worth* March 5-16.
They are the herdsmen, shep-
hards or caretakers of hte prize-
winnnig livestock.
A committee will award prizes
or “bouquets” to the herdsmen,
shepherds or caretakers.
These livestock attendants will
be judged on orderliness and
cleanliness in keeping stalls and
animals, promptness, system em-
ployed around the stalls, personal
appearance, observation of rules
and cooperation with the manage-
ment.
One prize valued at $15 in mer-
chandise will be awarded to a
herdsman, shepherd or caretaker
in each division of the show. Also,
the management will award a
grand prize of $30 in cash to the
best all-around herdsman, shep-
herd or caretaker, and $20 in cash
to the second best.
Veterans Questions
‘Q—Do I lose the subsistence al-
lowance that has not been paid to
me because of my failure to re-
port my earnings promptly?
A—No. You do not lose any of
the allowance due to you. If your
report shows that you are entitled
to subsistence allowance, you will
continue to receive my disability
compensation if I visit the land
of my birth? *
A—Yes; but you may have to
report in due course for a physical
examination to determine whether
it should be continued.
Q—Will Veterans Administra-
tion provide m ewith quinine or
atabrine tablets because of my
service in malaria infested coun-
tries, even though I have never
made application for compensa-
tion?
A—Yes. For the time being, if
you will present your discharge at
a Veterans Administration office
and it indicates that you saw-
service in a malaria infested coun-
try, VA will provide you with
quinine or atabrine tablets. How-
ever, it would be well to establish
your rights as of record.
Texas Technological College will
enter 15 head of cattle and 15 fat
barrows in the Southwest Exposi-
tion and Fat Stock Show at Fort
Worth March 5-17.

THE CONQUERING
LIFE
By Lloyd J. Allen, Minister
The highest type of heroism is-
not the courage of the soldier fac-
ing his enemy. It is the moral
courage of good people opposing
the evils which cause the soldier
to have enemies. It is this hero-
ism that has kept man out of the
bottomless pit. These moral heroes
have “allured” to brighter worlds
and led the way of human ad-
vance by calling man away from
the life of sensual phantoms back
to reality—back to God. Life is an
incoherent mess without Him, for
in Him all things cohere, or hang
together. (Col. 1:16-18)
