Wichita Holding
Group, Quizzing
On Area Lootings
A group of four men and two
women who allegedly operated
over this area as a “crime ring”
with robberies, burglaries, car
theft, forgeries and extortion to
their record, up to Thursday had
not been connected with any
Young County or Archer County
offense.
The six suspects, being quizzed
by Wichita Falls officers, will face
^charges accusing them of Wichita
burglaries but nothing so far links
them with the November 19 Olney
High School burglary or the store
lootings a week earlier at Me-
gargel, District Attorney Elmer
Parish told the Enterprise Thurs-
day by telephone.
He said however “this thing is
just getting well started” and in-
dicated a great many more devel-
opments were expected from the
investigations.
The apparent wide operation of
the group over this part of the
state had made them suspect in
the local burglaries.
The six were arrested at Chil-
dress January 6, driving a car re-
ported stolen in Mexia and carry-
ing license plates stolen at Wal-
ters, Okla., according to Parish.
Wichita and Fort Worth officers
were notified when ramifications
of the suspects’ activities became
apparent, and they joined the
vestigations.

COUNCIL—
(Continued from page 1)
council meeting will be called to
consider whatever plan is recom-
mended.
Opinion Divided
The gas rate matter produced a
wide split of opinion among coun-
cil members.
Commissioners J. F. Carter and
Harry Bettis voted against the ol-
der refusing the gas company re
quest, and urged instead that the
council allow for a six-month per
iod the 25-cent-per-meter monthly
increase asked by the company.
It was. argued that Railroad
Commission study of the local
claim for more return on the com
pany investment in Olney could
result in a higher rate being im
posed on this city.
Commissioners Clester Evans,
Albert Acker and Paul Atchley
voted for the motion denying the
gas company request but from the
discussions, apparently did so in
order that the way will be open
for the gas company to appeal to
the Railroad Commission if it
chooses.
The Railroad Commission can-
not take up to the Olney rate re
quest for study unless it comes
to them as an appeal, the council
was told by City Attorney E. G.
Thornton.
Might Be Reopened
The company some time ago
asked a raise equivalent to 25
cents per meter per month, as-
serting that it is not receiving a
fair return on the investment in
Olney’s gas system.
At that time a number of the
commissioners expressed them-
selves as willing to grant some in-
crease if the company’s return
were proved to be too low, but
said that Railroad Commission ex-
perts should study the City Gas
Company figures and evaluate the
claim.
At midweek this week, it was
reported that the matter again
may come before the council with
a suggestion the city officials re-
open their study of the problem.
