And only other materials needed

Why Acker Young
Keeps on Being
First With Farmers
Because it’s the store with MORE
DEPARTMENTS . . . and BIGGER
DEPARTMENTS . . .
When the farmer and his family
come to Olney, they come first to
Acker-Young . . .
Experience has taught them that
here they’ll find nearly everything
they want to buy.
Furniture . . . household appliances
. . . Tools for the shop, yard and
field ... Sporting goods . . . music
supplies ... Hardware . . . Fencing
and other farm and ranch items.
Nowhere else can they find so
great a variety of items.
Nowhere else can they complete
their purchases so easily and so.
i quickly.
No wonder that Acker-Young can
proudly say that it remains
FIRST with Olney9s farmers!
(P. S.—And your farmer friend’s
reasons apply to your shopping as
well.)

1946 Terraces
Will Build Soil
On 3,200 Acres
New terracing constructed on
Young County farm land during
1946 will assure soil and moisture
conservation on about 3,200 acres
of cropeland, Secretary J. H.
Crawford of the County Agricul-
tural Conservation Association re-
ported this week.
Adding to the building up of
land productivity in this area, he
commented in his annual report,
will be the effect of 1946 planting
of 3,000 acres of winter legumes,
principally hairy vetch, and the
use of superphosphate—of which
three carloads were secured—ap-
plied to the land before seeding
the legumes.
He estimated 1946 new terraces
at approximately 150 miles of the
large ridge-type structures.
200 Stock Tanks
Construction of 200 earthern
tanks during the 12 months will
provide more water for livestock
and help in the fight against soil
erosion, Crawford added.
“Haskell Easterling says he now
has for the first time an adequate
water supply for his livestock.
Most of the tanks built in the
county the last three years are
full so that there is now and will
be for many years more water for
livestock in the county than ever
before,” said the secretary.
Ranchmep. and farmers have
eliminated approximately 5000
acres of mesquite. This plant has
become a menace to the ranges,
in fact to quote B. W. King, one
of the county’s ranchmen. “If your
pasture is heavily infested with
mesquite the ranchman is work-
ing on the halves.’ He bases this
statement on the fact he has a
tract of pasture from which hte
mesquite was eliminated five or
six years ago, so he has a good
chance to know whereof he speaks,
said Crawford.
In addition to the practices
enumerated many more have been
carried out, such as contour farm
ing, contour seeding, green man-
ure, etc. But Crawford asserted
that while much has been accom-
