RIB B ON C UTTING-Members of the First American Bank staff were joined by BIC board members Tuesday morning
in a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the start of the name change of Am West Savings. Branch manager Dan Winingham
is shown preparing to cut the ribbon. The ribbon and dollar bills were given to the BIC for their park project.
AmWest Becomes
First American Bank
AmWest Savings Association is now
First American Bank, SSB. The new
name comes after the Financial institu-
tion changed its charter to a state savings
bank (SSB). The institution officially
began operating under the new name
November 14.
Donald A. Adam, chairman and chief
executive officer of First American
Bank, explains that although the name
of the bank has been changed, there has
been no transfer in ownership. The bank
will still be owned and operated by The
Adam Corporation/Group of Bryan, and
the same local staff will continue to
serve the community.
“All account relationships will re-
main the same, with no interruption in
service to our customers,” Adam points
out.
“Traditionally, banks offered a
broader line of banking services, and it
is perceived that they still do,” Adam
continues. “However, in today’s finan-
cial marketplace, there is little differ-
ence between what a bank and a savings
institution can offer customers. Our new
name better describes our services and
our commitment to offer an even greater
variety of banking services to our cus-

William C. Atkinson, president and
chief operating officer of First Ameri-
can Bank, says, “All accounts will con-
tinue to be insured up to $ 100,000 by the
FDIC. All AmWest check, loan cou-
pons and other account documents are
valid and will continue to be honored.
Customers can continue using these
items until their supply is depleted.”
First American Bank is a $3 billion
finanical institution, currently serving
38 Texas communities with 53 branch
offices throughout West and North
Central Texas.
“Our strength is in our Texas owner-
ship and in our people,” Adam points
out “We understand the unique needs of
Texans, and we provide a greater level
of personal service.

Grime
Fgditer.
Outdoor grilling is a Texas tradition. You’ve probably collected
lots of great recipes for barbecued ribs, chicken, steaks and burgers.
But now there are two ingredients you won't need. Charcoal and lighter fluid.
Both contribute to the grime of air pollution. So take a deep breath
and fire up a propane grill. Grilling with propane is faster, cheaper
and environmentally correct. Propane. The clean choice.
The clear choice. Bon appetit!

Answered Prayer
Is Group Program
Stating that one definition of prayer is
“an earnest request made to God”,
Myrtis Womack shared the impact
prayer has made on her life when First
Baptist Women’s Prayer Group met at
the church November 15. She told of a
petition she had laid before God over a
period of years and of her inability to
believe at first that her prayer had really
been answered.
Following Mrs. Womack’s testi-
mony, others related personal inci-
dences of answered prayer and ex-
pressed statements of praise and thanks-
giving.
The meeting was opened with prayer
by Lou Trotter. In response to specific
requests a circle of prayer was offered
by the group.
Myra Ramsey presented the Calendar
of Prayer with Georgia Osbum reading
Scripture and Hazel Lovett lifting in
prayer the missionaries with birthdays
this date.
A period of fellowship prior to the
meeting was hosted by Mrs. Ramsey.
Announcement was made of a book
study to be given by Jan Tyler Novem-
ber 22 and a visit to Seven Oaks Novem-
ber 29.
Others in attendance were Zella
Dagley, Justine Watson, Lynn On-
dricek. Annis Jones, and Wanda Crosth-
wait.
