History Of Christianity
Is Baptist Mission Study
“Christianity Takes Shape” was the
mission study topic for First Baptist
Women when they met May 3 in fellow-
ship hall of the church. Names and
contributions of individuals who helped
in the spread of Christianity in A.D. 300-
800 were presented by program leader
Hazel Lovett.
There was Tertullian who wrote de-
fenses of the Christian faith in the face of
persecution. The Roman emperor Con-
stantine presided over the Council of
Nicea which led to the writing of the
Nicene Creed which is still in use today.
Christianity spread to Ireland because of
the dedication of Patrick and into Great
Britain through Columba and Au-
gustine.
As missionaries moved through Eu-
rope and eastward they used many
methods which are still employed today
- translating of the Scriptures, mobiliz-
ing many people to help with the wo±,
living by exacting ideals of the Christian
faith, fervent prayer, commitment, and
trust in the living Savior.
The meeting opened with the singing
of a hymn led by Elizabeth Loyd accom-
panied by Zella Dagley. Myra Ramsey
offered prayer prior to the study.
Announcement was made of a salad
luncheon at the home of Catherine
Thomas following Bible study May 10.
A missions banquet recognizing all
groups of WMU will be held May 11.
A circle of prayer concluded the
meeting.
A time of fellowship was hosted by
Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Ramsey preced-
ing the study.
Others present included Doris Perry,
Lou Trotter, Dora Mae Crosthwait,
Justine Watson, Laura Johnson and
Wanda Crosthwait.
