Blip or trend?
On a roll
The parent company of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls has been a bright
spot in retail while many other clothing chains struggled.
The company has added new locations and begun offering more
up-to-date products, moves that helped it woo shoppers away from
mall-based stores. The results
have shown up on TJX Cos.’
bottom line. The company’s
earnings and revenue increased
through the first three quarters
of the fiscal year that ended in
January. Did the trend continue
in the fourth quarter? Find out
today, when TJX serves up its
latest results.

That didn’t take long at all.
Royal Bank of Scotland made its first annual
profit in a decade during 2017.
By some measures, the bank was the
world’s biggest in 2007 after several high-pro-
file acquisitions. But the expansion was largely lost a whopping 24.3 billion pounds ($34 billion).
The bank remains
majority-owned by
taxpayers and its
strategy is more
low-key. But it still has a
potentially massive fine
from the U.S. govern-

to go bankrupt, RBS was bailed out by the
British government and slowly nursed back to
health — though it took 10 years and some
dizzying losses along the way. In 2008, RBS
