City officials announced a se-
ries of public meetings to share
with residents proposed new
zoning maps for the city during
April and May.
The new maps reflect updates
to the city’s plan for land uses.
Zoning districts lay the founda-
tion for what can be built where in
the city. For example, zoning dis-
tricts can protect residential
neighborhoods from commercial
development that could hurt
property values. Other zoning dis-
tricts can protect business inves-
tors who want to know that the
project they plan is allowed by
right with the land that they are
purchasing for the project
The city staff announced seven
open houses throughout April
and May so residents and busi-
ness owners can learn more and
comment on the districts. Resi-
dents can also learn more and
comment online at www.Denton
Code2030.com and dick on icon
labeled “Zoning Map.”

According to the report, the
man started swinging the blade
at the victim when he didn’t
move quickly enough. After a
brief struggle between the two,
the man left with the victim’s
wallet, the report said.
No injuries were reported
and no arrests have been made.

A 35-year-old woman told
police that her estranged hus-
band hit her with his truck while
she was holding their 2-year-old
son at a Denton gas station on
Thursday.
Police responded to a domes-
tic disturbance call around 4:50
p.m. at a Chevron gas station in
the 3000 block of West Univer-
sity Drive.
The woman said she and her
63-year-old husband got into an
argument over custody of their
son, Denton police spokesman
Shane Kizer said. The woman
claimed the man smelled of al-
cohol and punched her in the
back.

and officer-initiated calls for the
agencies it serves, and 31 people
were booked into Denton Coun-
juries, Kizer said.
No arrests have been made
and an investigation is pending.

2500 block of Stella
Street — A 57-year-old woman
reported her credit card stolen
after she tried to help three
homeless men Wednesday af-
ternoon.
The woman contacted police
around noon Thursday to report
the incident.
According to a police report,
she saw three homeless men
standing outside an apartment
complex near West Hickory
Street unable to charge their
phones.
The woman said she wanted
to help the men and told them to
follow her to her apartment on
Stella Street so they could charge
their phones, the report said. Af-
ter the men left, she noticed her
credit card was missing.
1200 block of Fulton
Street — A parishioner at a lo-
cal church was robbed at knife-
point Thursday morning, ac-
cording to a police report.
A 20-year-old man was
walking through the courtyard
of the First Christian Church of
Denton around 10 a.m. when a
white man in a hoodie ap-
proached him, the report said.

The southbound U.S. Highway 77
(Dallas Drive) on-ramp onto south-
bound I-35E will be closed through late
2018 while crews rebuild the highway
interchange at Loop 288 and build a
new underpass at Brinker Road.
