If I could change one thing in
my life, it would be: to go to
college.
The best book I ever read was:
the Bible.
My favorite television show of
all time: Wheel of Fortune.
My favorite movie of all time:
Gone With the Wind.
During the Great Depression,
I: never had enough to eat; had
to walk 5 miles to school; and
Daddy married a lady with nine
children.

My earliest childhood memory is:
picking cotton, and my dad would
bring back a sack of candy when
he took the cotton to the gin.
I wish I knew how to: type.
Nobody knows I: If I tell, then

trust people and believe in the

history ramble, or talk about my aching foot’
‘Big fat liar’ strategy
Linda Lee Andujar says she was an-
noyed because “the same caller ID number
kept ringing my house over and over. I do
not answer unknown vendor calls. But after
many calls from the same number, I yanked
the phone and said sternly, ‘Why do you
keep calling me?’
‘A voice said, ‘I am from Microsoft in
Silicon Valley, the home of Mr. Bill Gates.’
“Before he could keep going, I replied,
‘You are a big fat liar, and I will not answer
this number again’ and hung up.
“To my surprise, ever since that call two
weeks ago, I have had zero vendor calls.
Thanks to The Watchdog, I signed up for No-
MoRobo which reduced my vendor calls. But
I didn’t know that calling a jerk a big fat liar
would stop all vendor calls. Call me amused.”
Say what strategy
Gene Henderson answers by saying
“Hola!” If the message continues, he says,
“No habla Ingles.”
“They don’t call back,” he says, adding:
‘We fight until we prevail.”
Say it in Spanish, Gene: Lucharemos
hasta prevalecer.
Dallas Morning News staff writer Ma-
rina Trahan Martinez contributed to this
report.
Inappropriate questions
Tom Carse answers and waits for a live
person to come on the line. He says, “Ex-
cuse me,” then asks if they’re wearing, um,
undergarments.
“Reactions are hilarious and worth
the effort,” he says. “It’s a gender-neutral
approach to embarrass these people who
are so hard up they cannot or will not get a
real job.”
Anapp
Bob Griffin downloaded a free app
called Call Protect. “Since I installed it, I
get maybe one call a week.” (Note: We’ve
presented NoMoRobo.com in the past, but
that isn’t free on a mobile phone.)
Lengthen voice
mail messages
Kim Barkley says she increased the
length of her voice mail answering message
by several seconds. “Automated dialing
systems detect it has gone to voice mail and
drop the call. It doesn’t solve the problem
of the number of calls, but does cut the
number of messages.”
Call the company
Howard Abernathy called Time
Warner Cable to complain about too
many spam calls. He was advised to get
an unlisted number. (Watchdog note:
Ha!) When he declined, a TWC block-
ing program was added to his line. “We
noticed positive change immediately.” Ask
your phone provider what call blockers
are available.
Mobile blocking
Debbie Caram Campbell says mobile
phones allow numbers to be blocked as part
of their setup. “It’s two or three steps,” she

Turn it around
Bruce Gundermann says that when the
phone rings he answers by saying, “Hello, is
Bob there?”
‘After a moment of awkward silence, the
caller will usually say no. At that point, I
say, ‘Sorry, I must have answered the wrong
number.’” Dead silence follows before he
hangs up.
says.

Split personalities
Hal Barker says he uses various comic
voices to drive the caller “absolutely crazy.”
“I have approximately 35 voice types I can
mimic,” he says. He tries to match the region
of the world where the caller sounds like he or
she is from. “Or, I will simply go into my life
