Police: Roommate pulls out knife during household feud
waiting on his girlfriend to bring
their dog to an appointment. He
asked to use the restroom; she
showed him to the restroom.
While she was tending to
other customers, she noticed the
man leaving the office in a hurry.
Shortly thereafter, she noticed
her purse was missing. She told
police she believes the man took
it. Police filed a report.
800 block of Ruddell
Street — A landlord told police
Monday that while she was try-
ing to evict some residents, she
discovered that some company
property had come up missing
from a shed in the back of the
house. But the residents told
investigators that the landlord
had told them to take down the
shed because its roof was caving
in, according to a police report.
The landlord said she had
told the residents to never enter
the shed, noticing during the
eviction that its door handle had
been broken off, and she said a
window air-conditioning unit
and a ladder were missing, the
report shows. The residents told
investigators they were doing
what they were told by going
into the shed. The police were
able to negotiate the situation
down to a civil matter, wherein
the landlord and the residents
will work out a deal to resolve
the dispute, a police spokesman
said.

Three 20-year-old men and
a 19-year-old woman told po-
lice early Monday morning that
their roommate in the 2200
block of Lookout Lane opened
his pocketknife and stood in
the doorway of a room in which
they were arguing, according to
a police report.
Nobody reported any inju-
ries, and all three of the fisted ac-
cusers told police the roommate
did not overtly threaten them
with violence, but they were
nonetheless spooked by how the
roommate stood in the doorway
playing with the knife in his
hand, police said. They feared
what he would have done if they
had tried to leave the room, or if
they had called 911, police said.
The three accusers visited
the Denton Police Department
lobby around 1a.m. Monday.
Based on the police report, it
appears the tense standoff had
been in the making. The trio
reported that the roommate

had not been getting along with
the others in the house, which
they rent together. That Sunday
night, they were playing video
games in one room when the
roommate came by to ask them
to tamp down the noise. The ac-
cusers told police they were be-
ing loud. As the other roommate
left the room, the three said, one
of them made a comment about
him. He heard it, and he turned
back around. They all then be-
gan arguing, police said.
Police said that as the con-
versation went on, the room-
mate pulled out his pocketknife
and opened it. He never pointed
it at them, the three told po-
lice. But he was standing in the
doorway. After about five min-
utes, the roommate moved from
the doorway, leaving the room.
That’s when the other room-
mates closed the door, waiting
a while inside before leaving to
head to the police department,
according to the report.
By Tuesday, the case was
already inactive, police spokes-
man Bryan Cose said. Though
the behavior was concerning, it
did not rise to the level of an as-
sault, Cose said.
