INDIANA ELECTIONS
f BY DAN II. BEEBE

“IDIANAPOLIS, July 15.—
is the open season for mayors
Indiana. If ;/.i need recrea-
tion, come to Indiana and take a
pot shot at some prosperous exe-
cutive. There are a few left.
Here is a list of Indiana mayors
who are either under indictment
or who have been tried in the past
three months:
May or Joseph E. Bell, Indian-
rno, indicted by the Howard eoun-
ty grand jury for “oppression,”
maleonduct and malfeasance in
office, but acquitted.
Mayor James Leb Watkins,
Newcastle, indicted by the Henry
county grand jury for bribery,
but acquitted.
With the indictment of Mayor
BeB, Thomas Taggart, Democratic
National committeeman, and 126
other Indiana politicians', includ-
ind Chief of Police Perrott of this
city, and DoAn Roberts, the prev-
ious indictmelits were thrown into
the backgrouhd. Mayor Bunch
of Munice has taken legal points
of his case to the state supreme
court and a decision will not come
until October, and the Terre
Haute conspiracy so thoroughly
cleaned up by IJ. S. District At-
toney Dailey, is history.
The Indianapolis indictment,
apolis, indicted with 127 others,
on 48 counts for conspiring to cor-1 striking as it did so many pronti-
rupt the Marion county election. I omit Indiana Democrats, has

the Herald, a Democratic organ
published here, printed an edi-

Collins of the Marion county
criminal court, lie was cited for
contempt of court and of the

Prosecutor Rucker. Ray's edi-
