Ruidoso Opens Condominiums
Th» dream of ownin •
vacation home in a pleasant
resort area—a dream within
reach of many American
families only a decade age—
is one that has virtually been
shattered by the sharp esca-
lation in land and construc-
tion costs.
With the price tags on
even a modest little retreat
today approximately that of
a spacious year-round home
10 years ago, only people of
notably substantial means
can afford to buy, to say
nothing of the high coats of
1900’s has solved the high
coot-of-vacation-living for
many middle-income fami-
lies there, and is now avail-
able in many parts of the
United States, including
Ruidoso. N.M.
Called ‘‘time-sharing
ownership”, the concept is
essentially simple; partici-
pants buy an attractive, fur-
nished vacation home, but
only for the period of time
they anticipate using it each
At pinediff Village Con-
dominiums in Ruidoso, the
plan works like this:
Rick T. is an elsctrkal
engineer with a large firm In
El Paso. On his annual
two-week vacation, he like
to ski, so he takas his
holiday in January. If his
wife (a non-skier) and three
small children go along, he is
faced with hotel bills that
cost an arm and a leg, plus
the expense and three-
times-a-day hasale of taking
the kids out to eat.
He cannot afford to buy a
cottage in the ski srea which
he will be able to use, at
most, for two or three weeks
a year.
He buys, instead, a fur-
nished two-bedroom condo-
minium at Pinediff Village
for the first two weeks of
January.

Southwesterners; it has, in
proper season, horse racing,
golf, hfldng, art gallerias,
ski slopes, and an abundance
of dean mountain air; and,

viable answer to the soaring
costs of a vacation home
away from home.
An important painting by
the gntkt American “roman-
tic-naturalist” artist, Alfred
Thompson Bricher, has been
added tvjthe Dallas Museum
of FuMLArts’ Foundation for
the Anp Collection through
the generosity of Mr. and
Mrs. Frederick M. Mayer.
Ttae and Tide, an oil
canvas, was painted about
1873 and marks a culmina-
tion of the artist’s early ca-
reer as he successfully in-
terpreted the literary theme
by suspending time with his
luminous realism. \
Jeffrey R. Brown, na-
tionally known Bricher scho-
lar, refers to “Time and
Tide” as a “homage to the
sea” conveying an impres-
sion of hushed stillness ac-
companying the dropping air
pressure at the arrival of a
stopnn. He reflects upon the
clohe observation of nature's
appearances intensified

tion and crispness of handl-

DEAR ABBY: I am very much in love with a man I work .
with. The problem is his wife. Every time he starts to tell
her he wants a divorce, she gets herself pregnant and he , .
decides that he can’t go through wRh it.
This is the third time she's pulled that on him, Abby, and 1
I am tired of waiting for him. but I can’t break It off because
I love him too much.
He is 34 and I’m 20, but I’ve been on my own since I was .
15. We’ve been seeing each other for three years. I could
get another man real tut, but I don’t want anyone but him.
I know'he loves me because he’s so jealous, he’s threatened
to mess up my face if I go out on him.
Do you think he’ll ever leave his wife and marry met
Am I foolish to wait for him? What should I do?

DEAR ABBY: A niece of mine was recently married, so
I sent her a set of crystal and silver salt and pepper skakers
for a wedding gift. It was not inexpensive for a woman of
my means.
With her thank-you note she enclosed a bill for half again
the amount I had spent on her gift. It.aeems that this bride
had returned my gift to the jewelry store from which it
was purchased, and selected a more expensive set of salt
and pepper shakers in its place.
This girl is not dumb. She’s a college graduate.
Not wanting to make a fuss, I paid the difference. What
