The first meeting of the
Women's Culture Club, presided
over by President Lucy Harri-
son, began with style on Sept.
13.
Members were beautifully at-
tired In hats and gloves to honor
past presidents and long time
members.
Mrs. Bryan Edwards, program
chairman, presented a most In-
formative and humorous talk on
the brief history of "Hats and
Gloves" In days gone by.
Hats, from plnwheel, picture,
to pillbox, were worn by mem-
bers and guests.
Sarah Franklin "hammed" It
up modeling hats on display
from pioneer days to the pre-
sent
Did you know? In the 1920s
there were 581 hat manufactur-
ers. Today, there are less than

All sorts of hat trivia was
noted. At one point In time, hats
were used In the flirting game.
Delicious refreshments were
served by the social committee.

Each honored guest was pre-
sented with a pretty pink rose
corsage. They are as follows:

Llano Senior Center News
Loreen Cox winner of
quilt/ctr. collects $247
by Ella Edwards
Here Is the big news you have
all been waiting for. Loreen Cox
won the quilt that was given
away at the Center. We are all
happy for her. The Center col-
lected $247 and this amount will
be donated to the Center.
Here Is another bit of news.
Kirk and Marilyn Winfrey pre
sented Gwen Brumm. the Senior
Center Director, with a check for
$1,000. This money Is to go for
"Meals on Wheels." and Is a re-
sult of the Crawfish Open for
Llano county charities. The
United Methodist Church coor
dlnates the delivery of "Meals on
Wheels" with volunteers from all
over town. Volunteers are al-
ways welcome.
Hill Country Transit will
transport individuals to Austin
for appointments the first
Wednesday of each month. The
round trip cost is $12. Partial
funding is provided by the Texas
Department on Aging and the
Older Americans Act.
Commodities will be ready for
distribution on Sept. 28. Rules
for acceptance and participa-
tion In TEFAP are the same for
everyone without regard to race,
color, age. sex. disability, politi-
cal belief, religion, or national
origin.
Commissioners Court....
Approval of public hearing
date fails in special meeting
A special Commissioners
Court meeting was held on Sept.
13 following the regular meeting.
The only Item on the agenda
was the approval of the setting
of Sept 16. 1993 at 10:30 a.m.
Judge Coleman moved that
date of Sept. 16 for the Public
Hearing for the 93-94 Budget be
approved. Commissioner
Lelfeste seconded the motion.
The motion did not pass with
the vote being 2 for. 2 against
and 1 abstaining. Since Judge
Coleman had already set and
published the Public Hearing on
the 93-94 Budget for Sept. 16 the
hearing will take place on that
date at 10:30 a.m.

370 will have its executive com-
mittee meeting Thursday. Sept.
16 at 6:30 p.m.
The post wants to have an-
other fish fry In October and will
need to talk about what they will
do for Heritage Day. Many of the
members are working with the
Historical Commission on pro-
jects.
Llano Museum has gotten
some uniforms and items for
their military display. There has
been none from the Civil War.
They would like anything; pic-
tures, button from a uniform, sic.
Llano had many young assn In
this war on both aides. Castdl
alone had six men. The Hums
are accepted as gifts or on loan

Day.
