Llano Judge reinstates the
county-wide burning ban
...
%p/.i
The Llano County
Commissioners on Monday ap-
proved Judge Howard Cole-
man's reinstatement of the
county-wide burning ban on
Sept. 30.
Judge Coleman had lified the
burning ban on Sept 23 with the
commissioners approving the
move on Monday, Sept. 27 which
he followed by reinstating the
ban on Thursday. Sept. 30.
The ban was originally en-
acted In July with a resolution
from Judge Coleman declaring a
state of disaster for Llano
County and banning any county
resident from setting a fire out of
doors anywhere In the county
until further notice.
The ban was based on the fact
that the county had not had any
"appreciable rainfall for an ex-
tended period., (and that) dry
conditions posed a threat of
large, fast moving wild fires.."
Judge Coleman lifted the ban
on Sept 23 after concluding that
the eminent danger of wild grass
fires had been diminished with
the recent rainfall. At the time
of lifting the ban Coleman
stated. "I lifted the ban after
speaking with the chiefs of five
of tiie ten local volunteer lire
departments and they had no
objections to the lifting of the
ban." Upon reinstating the ban.
Coleman stated that T rein-
stated the ban at the request of
several of the VFD chiefs after
several small grass fires and due
to the fact that the dry condi-
tions once again exists."
The maximum penalty for
failure to observe the ban Is
$1,000 and up to six months In
Jail.
